on board charger

I'm thinking of putting an on board charger on my Bass tracker. Since I have three batteries would I have to have a 3 bank charger or a 2 bank since two of the batteries are for the trolling motor at 24v and one at 12v for the starting battery. or just use two differnt chargers? There isn't alot of information on the net to answer the question.

Most guys i know only use an on0bd. Charger for their trolling batteries. I have a 24 volt, so i've got a 2 bank
hooked to them. Last fall, i got a 1 bank off a buddy, who did'nt need it, and hooked it up to my starting battery, to make sure it would charging during the winter. I'd hook it up for a day or 2, then unplug it. To save weight, i'd probably go with the 2 bank.... Tr

Get you a 3-bank charger to charge them all at the same time. The charger will deliver charge to each battery individually.

Where are your batteries located. Matters if they are not all together. If you have two batteries up front and one in the back, a three bank won't help much as it is when you get it. The charger's lead wires to the batteries are usually a 2-3 feet max. It also could matter on battery types. Most of the new chargers have settings for the different battery types (flooded, AGP, ect). It's one setting per charger. If all the batteries are flooded, no problem.

I agree with Big T. Unless you use a lot of electronics and run your boat engine very little, practically every engine made in the last 15 to 20 years will keep your starting battery sufficiently charged without the aid of an onboard charger.

I agree with sweetwater if you have a outboard that has a alternator, I have a 1993 200hp Mercury and it has rectifiers and will supply some juice back to the starting battery, but not to keep it charged, I would get a 3 bank.....JMO

I agree with sweetwater if you have a outboard that has a alternator, I have a 1993 200hp Mercury and it has rectifiers and will supply some juice back to the starting battery, but not to keep it charged, I would get a 3 bank.....JMO

I have up until recently fish a full tournament schedule, in the summer alot of night tournaments, two live wells, starting the Merc, running lights, power trim, electronics, a blacklight, thats a bunch to ask from a couple of rectifiers, after I put it up and I put the charger on it, and it takes the charge, I've had no problems....JMO
