Depends, if your going to take a boat, i'd make sort of like a circuit, go to guntersville, 1-2 days, pickwick a
day or 2, ky lake a day or 2. Drive around some, see the sites.
If no boat. I'd either go to the gulf and go out charter fishing, or line up a guide and fish lake fork or amistad
in tx. Another good trip would be up north, fish the great lakes, or the 1000 islands region on the st. Lawrence.
My in-laws were from there and they said it was really beautiful...tr

We hauled canoes to Canada and portaged around and camped on an island for a week....Of all the vacations I've been on to the beach and to KY Lake, this was my all time favorite....There were 10 of us and we saw one other boat all week with 2 guys in it and caught and ate a ton of fish...It was completely peaceful and we got to see a lot of wildlife that you don't get to see around here...We had no electricity or running water so we filtered and drank the lake water...If you hit the weather right like we did, I cant see having a better vacation

I would head to the Keys. Lots of stuff to do besides fishing such as checking out Key West, take the Ferry to Tortuga and snorkeling the coral reefs to taking a ride down alligator hwy across the Everglades.

In a couple weeks you could do ALOT of different kinds of fishing. Back country for tarpon, reds and specks, flats for bones and permit, offshore for bill fish, tuna, mahi and snapper and you could also head up to the Florida mainland and fish some of the lakes for big Florida bass. If you are adventurous you could hit the Miami canals for all of the exotics like peacock bass and snakeheads.

Jim Dicken here, I work in summers at a Fishing Camp in Alaska. I highly recommend coming up here. We have the lowest prices on the Kenai Peninsula. $649 for 3 salmon trips and a week in a cabin in June. $749 for 2 Salmon and a Halibut Trip. We have Gold Panning, the Kenai Fjords national wildlife area boat viewing. The Fjords trip is really great. I can send you pics some of the guests have taken. You will see, glaciers calving into the ocean, killer whales, seals, sea lions, puffins, other birds and wildlife and the ever present Sea Otters. I live in Louisville and used to work at Fishin.com. Web site for the lodge is www.1AlaskaAdventure.com
If you want a week in July or August the price is $849 for 2 salmon and 1 Halibut trip, and week in a cabin on the Kenai.
We also have fly outs to Wolverine Creek, for Red Salmon and Silver Salmon in August. There are always grizzlies hanging around and black bears, eagles et. Great fly out on the way home over glaciers, and near the Volcanoe.

I would head to Canada. For a reasonable price they will fly you into a lake and come back in a week. Tons of fish and no one but whoever goes with you.

    I AGREE............great, fantastic trip.

I do it every year, and sometimes twice a year.

Not too far away, Douglas Lake in Tennessee. Close to Gatlinburg/Smoky Mountains. Excellent bass, crappie and blugill fishing. Trout fishing in downtown little pigeon river area.

The Florida Keys are looking pretty good because you have the opportunity to fish deepsea,Freshwater,or Tarpon in the bays and flats all in the same area. I thought about Costa Rico, but think I'll stick to domestic travel now,Canada would be okay except I'm not in shape to rough it very much right now.
    Thanks to those that replied,

Hey Glenn there are few guys on here that go El Salto every year. According to them that part of Mexico is still very safe. I would love to fish that lake. I've also been told that if you take a few people and share expenses it's affordable. They also treat you like a king while your there waiting on you hand and foot.

All that said I do understand where you are coming from and that would concern me as well.
