Fish Finder question....

Anybody ever have problems when using two fish finders at the same time...I have 2 Humminbird finders, 1 Gps/chart plotter finder and 1 depth/fish finder.. Ive noticed that when I have both of them running..they wont pick up anything! as soon as I turn the rear one off, the front will start marking fish..Can they interfere with each other? Didn't know if anyone has heard of this. Also, for some reason, the guy had the gps at the front of the boat..transducer/ power cables looked the same, so I just switched mounts and put them in their correct locations..I guess this shouldn't be a problem since everything still powers on and reads depth and temp correctly.

You can run them at the same time it you have them set to different frequencies.

For example 200 and 83 KHz

Im not sure about the "not picking up anything" part of your question as I have never run two at a time.


Many units today are dual frequency. No experience with the side scan stuff and down scan so I don't know what is possible there.

You will notice verticle line noise sometimes when another boat is near because both are running on the same frequency. To eliminate the noise from the other boat just switch frequencies until you get some distance.

I've always had problems.

I purchased a great down imaging unit and have a 535 on the front. Now, when using both, whenever I have the front on I see clutter on the back screen.

I'm also having some issues with trolling motor interference with the BACK unit. I don't quite understand that, since the back is isolated from the trolling motor. Funky.

I run both of mine at the same time and have no trouble at all out of either one. I have a humminbird 1197si on the front and a humminbird 787ci in dash both work how they are supposed to so I don't know. I'm glad I haven't had to deal with this issue I hope it all works out for you.

Geo, do you mean isolated electrically or just by the remoteness of the locations? Second, does the trolling motor have a copilot or autopilot?

email humminbird about the issue. They have always been great in helping with issues.

I have a hummingbird 525 on the front and sometimes it gives me a false reading in the depth and it will have clutter on the screen

The best answer is sometimes. I run 2 Hummingbird side scans with no issues. However it has been widely reported that interference between the 2 units can occur. Most of the time I turn console one off if I plan on running the trolling motor for long periods of time.

I will get interference from two units when I get in water about 20 ft deep the cone angles will cross when you get in deep enough water. This also depends on the cone angle
