    Breaking and Entering

Have some friends who are in a nice housing development ($225k-275k). They have been eat up with folks breaking in over the last year. The cops know who is doing it but can't do anything until they catch them in the act. Very frustrating for everyone in that area.
My questions is.....what would some of you do if this was going on in your neighborhood? They have security in their homes being monitored and neighbors are looking out for each other but the losers still break in. They are knocking on doors during the day and if you answer they ask if you need your lawn mowed. If you don't answer they break in. One stretch of break ins was one every other day!!!
I would like to think I would beat them like I owned them or worse but as we all know crooks have rights and we can't take it to the Zimmerman extreme.....even if they attack us like he claims.
I cannot imagine how I would handle it!!! On sexing thought I'm fairly certain I would beat the living snot out of someone if I found them stealing.
Covert cameras is next. Im gonna sell these things at cost and install them free to try and get pics of these guys.
What has happened to this country? My gosh this is sad.

    Wink

Trail cams!!! Doesnt help stop the breakins but it will give you good pics of who is doing it. Hand the pics to the cops and if they still dont do anything then get a few friends together and go find the persons responsible and do what needs to be done to make sure it stops.

Put cops in the house and don't answer the door when they knock and let them break in.

I don't like surprise visits from anyone and don't answer the door just because someone knocks, not even the preacher. They have to call first and let me know they are coming. If anyone breaks into my house, he's on my turf and subject to my wrath. We can't shoot anyone if he's outside the house looking in but when he comes inside he can be badly injured or killed and the law is on our side. It has to do with the right to protect our home and family. I keep a handgun at my bedside, and one on the bar, and God help the person who breaks in on me.

I hope the person who catches those thieves, puts a truck load of "hurt" on them.

Update!!!! They caught them! Two men and a woman is what I heard so far. Hopefully a news segment will be on tonight. I guess their luck ran out. Also heard they were in their 20's.
Ironically, i was online pricing covet cameras when I got the text, and in case anyone wants one I found a Smoke Detector covert camera with a 32Gig SD card slot that can record on motion and when you have an incident just grab the sd card and toss it in your computer and watch the video. 30 frames a second video, 3.6mm wide angle lens and 600 lines of resolution. That a pretty good setup with quality fluid video not that choppy junk you see from video store robberies..... just have to power it with 12volts dc via a power supply. Cost about $170...well worth it.

I know some people who've put up a trail cam on their property...actually in front of the house strategically placed in a tree so it gets coverage of the driveway area leading to the street. It works for them...let's them see what's going on in front of their house when they're not home during the day.

Other than this, if the idiots are still breaking in, well....what can be done if alarms get tripped and the cops don't get there in time? All we can hope is all of our neighbors don't work for a living and someone in a neighboring house is home when the thieves come knocking.

Don those cameras work great if you can Id the suspects. I have been working several cases lately that the home owner was home, did not answer the door and when the suspects kicked in the door they got shot back out. The suspects are still alive but I can not seem to make a case on the home owner because THEY WERE IN FEAR FOR THEIR LIVES!

    ^^^^^^THIS.

We have had several break-ins in our neighborhood. At first, it was lowlifes breaking into empty new construction homes and stealing appliances. Now they have transitioned to knocking on doors and breaking in when nobody answers.

I don't answer the door when someone knocks, because (1) I can see my front porch, (2) I don't like the hoards of Jehovah's Witnesses, kids selling candy bars and magazines, or people wanting to sell me security systems or lawn care door-to-door. I really don't want to be bothered when I'm home, unless you're a friend or neighbor stopping by to saw howdy.

They can feel free to break in when I don't answer. I have no choice but to assume that they are there to kill me and then steal my stuff, in which case they will make it about 2 steps into my front foyer before you can see daylight through them. I don't want to, but if you force me, I'm not afraid to skin that smoke wagon. If it means that the herd has one less meth/pill-addict stealing from people to finance their habit, so be it.

The new trick over here has supposedly been that a couple of dudes in a truck pulling an enclosed lawn care trailer pull up to a house. They knock on the door. When nobody answers, one guy proceeds to start mowing the yard, while the other guy goes around back and breaks in. People are so used to seeing people with lawn care trailers in neighborhoods mowing yards that nobody thinks anything of it. It buys them a little more time to pilfer through people's homes, I guess. They load up their loot in the lawn care trailer and drive off.

We have idiots in the neighborhood that love to leave their garage doors open all day and late into the night. I was out one night and it was almost midnight, guy down the street had his garage door up, lights off like they were in bed. I knocked on his door, told him he had left his garage door up....and he acted very bothered that I did. I guess leaving the barn door wide open and then crying when somebody steals your prized milk cow is considered "normal" around here. Dumbass.
