I have a 25 volt 75lb thrust trolling motor and I just put two new batteries in it at the beginning of this year and my trolling motor has no power and it is completely dead within 2 hours. I have it wired properly for the 24 volt and I have a onboard charger that I plug in after every use. Any suggestions or ideas I can check into??? Thanks alot

Make sure your connections are clean and secure. Check for bare spots in your wiring. Make sure you don't have a pump or something stuck on. Check your batteries with a hydrometer (just a few bucks at any auto parts store). Check connections at your fuse/circuit breaker. Make sure your charger is set for the type battery you have. If all this checks out, my guess would be that you have a bad battery or charger. I had a battery go bad earlier this year and it was only a few months old.Originally Posted by Born2fish

I agree with all the above. If your dead after two hours it's probly the charger or the batteries. You can take the batteries to and auto shop to see if they might have a dead cell. But deep cycle trolling batteries should last at least 15 to 20 hours. before their compleatly dead. I know mine is a 24v 40lb motorguide and it last from daylight till dark and I've still got power.

Thanks for all the help. I have cleaned all the connections and everything checks out. I got the batteries at Walmart so I guess I will go up there and let them check them. This trolling motor use to knock u out of the boat on 2 if you weren't careful and now I have to keep it on 5 from the start

Remove the prop to see if any line is wrapped on the shaft. That won't do anything about your batteries but it may have an affect on your speed.

WAIT! I just went through the exact same thing last month. I bought 2 new Walmart batteries and charged, went out and 2 hours into it...DEAD!
Swapped the batteries out again(assumed 1 or both were bad), checked wiring again,.....same issue!
Unhooked batteries to take back again and on a whim pulled out the book on the on-board charger and they had voltages that should be on the outputs....got the trusty voltmeter out and bank 2 was only putting out 6.7 volts. All 3 banks are supposed to have an output around 13 volts. Banks 1 and 3 were good. Lights worked on charger as red when charging and then changed to green. But 2nd battery was not being charged.
Bought a NOCO Gen3 charger from Amazon $147 and now I have fished numerous 8 hour tournys with lots of wind and have plenty of juice.
Whatever it is I hope it turns out to be the cheapest and easiest solution for ya!

I appreciate everybody's suggestions. I was going through all my wires today and noticed that no matter what battery I put one of the banks of my charger on it says charged. I think I have a bad bank on my charger. How do u go about checking to see. I have a voltage meter but it has a bunch of different settings and I don't know which setting I need to put it on to test that!! Thanks again for all the help!!'

just plug charger in and check each battery to see if its showing 13.xx volts or not. set meter on anything over 12v

Set your voltmeter to V DC it probably has a V with a straight line and maybe a dashed line above that. The other V setting is AC and it will be shown with a wave. Of course if you have a setting for amount, set it to include 12 volts. Measure your voltage prior to turning on the charger then measure afterward.
