does anybody know if a beaver would steal my 2 brush piles I sank in a sripper pit 2 weeks ago they just disapeared and they were not little 1 was a sycamore tree top the other was a willow and ash they had a whole 5 gal bucket of creet tied on.they were in 15 ft. of water. took gps cord so i knew where they were. has any one heard of beavers doing this?

Oh My God. I've never heard of this before, but it does make sense for a beaver. They must think you are feeding them.

Quack you need to check in some states it is illegal to feed the animals. Beavers are smart animals I suppose if they could not move the brush pile with the weight they could chew it off and move it. With that said I have seen a tree blown into the water and they will trim the branches and use them so it is possible I guess.

I'm wondering if IDNR would let people control the beavers in Bluegrass by trapping them? I noticed on Loon Pit that the beavers have cut down a lot of the trees along the shoreline.

I know of several spots on Bluegrass Pit where the Beavers have been active cutting down the willow trees that line the banks.

I think Indiana has a trapping season on beaver.

I'm not a trapper nor am I after any beavers. Well the type that have a flat tail anyway!

I was just wondering why I don't see the beavers anymore. I used to fish until it got dark and when I first fished Bluegrass Pit back in 2003 I saw two of the beavers swimming in the "H" Part of the pit one night as I was heading back to the launch ramp after fishing deep back in the H. They were swimming on the surface and slapped their tails when they dove under the water as I got closer to them. I was using my trolling motor which is quieter than my gas motor. So that's why I probably was able to get closer to them.

I know that they are still around as you can see the tree's that they have cut down. I'd like to put some of those trees in the water as a brush pile but they are too big for me to move on my own. And I would think that we need a special permit to build any brush piles in the Pits over at Bluegrass or any other State Fish and Wildlife Area.

I'm not sure what the rules are for beavers at Bluegrass F&W area. Like I said I'm not a trapper. I tried that once years ago and all I caught was one of my neighbor's black Labs and that did it for me. I released him easily but was sorry that I put a trap where he could get caught in it. He was such a good dog and was happy that I released him. He probably would have bit me if he knew that I was the one who put that trap there. But he just was wagging his tail and allowed me to hold his paw while I took the trap off his foot. He seemed to be able to walk ok and didn't limp. But I took up all two of my traps and never put them out again. That was when I was still in HS and was trapping in the woods behind my parents house. I was trying to catch a raccoon or Fox and it never occurred to me that someone's pet might get caught in the trap. But I was brand new to trapping at the time and kind of clueless about how it's done. Now they have different types of traps for just raccoons where a dog can't get caught in them. The raccoon has to stick his paw inside a jar before the trap can catch him.

Move on I know what you mean I ran onto a dog in a trap while I was bird hunting however he was not a happy camper. I had to throw my coat over his head and hold him while my buddy released him he ran off in fine shape after we released him. Beavers will be good in a pit and will provide much needed habitat, however if they are in a lake or a pond you need to get rid of them as they can destroy a dam.

On the West Side by Kohls, there is a stream that runs though the Western side of the Kohls Store and the Beavers have been trying to dam up that stream to make a Beaver Pond. They will put sticks and mud into any moving water or anywhere they can hear the sound of moving water in that area. The only way to stop them is to kill them or trap them and move them out of the area.

I did some fishing today and I think I found some of the missing brush piles. I was marking them on on my sonar screen until my 4 GB SDHC SanDisk Extreme card filled up. After that I found that I could not even zoom in on my new waypoint after I hit the four way cursor button. I should have got a warning telling me on the screen that my card was full. But no, I had to figure it out the hard way.

No problem as I have other cards to use but didn't exchange the card out until I got home. It was hot today and I was tired and ready to go home anyway. I didn't see any beavers out there today. They must be hiding.
