Does anybody ever do any good fishing the Kentucky River in central KY?

I've fished at the Valley View Ferry twice in the past couple of weeks and have had very little action. I was wanting to catch a few channel cats or maybe a blue or two or possibly even a flathead for the frying pan. No such luck, however. All I managed to catch was one small long eared sunfish, who promptly found its way onto a much larger hook.

Anybody have any tips for that section of the river?

I've seen a few threads where folks fish down at Fort Boonesborough, but they really don't say much about what works for cats, or when to head down there.

Any hints/tips/suggestions for where to go to fish the river and what to use for bait would be hugely appreciated!!! I'm DYING to reel in a few cats for myself and the GF!

I don't know anything about cats, sorry. But for bass, I think the river has improved in the past few years around the Frankfort area, particularly below Lock 4.

Hey i fish the Ky all the time but usually from lock 3 to the Ohio. The hot water temps slow the cats down alot on the KY. For eating channels i can usually go out late afternoon and fish a log jam or deep hole and get a few fish with nightcrawlers, redworms or chicken livers. The key is don't sit in one spot more than 30 min. or so if no bites. If you are willing to travel a bit come to below the dam in Frankfort or better yet to Lock Port at lock 2. The catfishing is better the closer to the Ohio you get especially big fish. I have caught several blues 40lbs and better around Lock Port. Also some big flatheads around log jams. My best bait is skipjack or fresh shad dead or alive. My best blue came off a cut up bluegill though. I know this is a little off topic from where you are asking about fishing but i thought i would tell you this in case you might want to come up here and try this area sometime. Try some big fresh red worms in your area, cats like them better than night crawlers because they don't have the bitter taste like night crawlers ( or so i have been told. hope this helps.
