    Ohio river catfishing?

I don't catfish much at all. When I do it's at a pay lake. When fishing the river (right behind the dams mainly) what do you look for? Deep holes, humps, flats? I've been a few times and we've only caught a couple. Also how do you set up your rigs? Carolina rigs, drop shot, or do you use a 3 way swivel?

Thanks in advance for the help.

If bank fishing I would tie on a 7/0 kahle with 40 to 50 lb line then a swivel then about a 12 inch leader with 15 lb test tied to sinker. Use live bluegill, shad or skipjack. I always prefer gills. The reason for the lighter lb test is you will get hung up so you can break it off and retie. I saw a guy fishing from the bank using sparkplugs for sinkers. He said he gets them free and when he breaks them off it doesn't cost him anything. I always run the line thru the hook and tie and leave about 12 inches hanging to tie the swivel to. I hope this make since. I don't trust swivels for my fish that is why I tie the hook direct and leave line for the swivel.

Good advice^^^ I do it alittle different but basically the same. I use a 9 or 10\0 Gamakatsu. I like rising water when bank fishing. If you can find the first drop behind the dams or power plant with slack or seam water your in good shape...a foam line will let you know if your in the right spot.I also like the creek mouths, bait is easier to find back in creeks and the fresher the better. I prefere mooneye, skips, shad, and bluegill in that order. FRESH is the key,a cast net is a must have. You can cut bait it for smaller fish or throw the whole thing out there for less bites, but bigger fish. I'm down that way all the time, if you see a blond headed guy in a boat or on shore give me a shout.Hope this helps. Good luck, Chuck
