In the past I have tried to highlight how insurance works as a tool to spead financial risks.

But using it for your everyday prescriptions, check-ups and other minor things is not "financial risk". It's basically paying someone else to pay for your everyday needs.

If we went to a more catastrophic insurance model where people were not using it to pay for things every day, then it could be considered spreading financial risk.

Point well taken. I think the idea of complete health coverage originated with the HMO concept to health care. Prior to HMO most all health plans had deductable initial payments, then an 80/20 split payment with maximum out of pocket expenses.

Many current health plans have many of the elements of the HMO plans.

One of the problems is that just the cost of prescriptions can cause significant financial risks. I am in sticker shock over the price of some basic prescriptions these days.

And I firmly believe prescriptions wouldn't cost as much if we weren't using insurance to pay for them.

I don't trust Muslims, not one single bit! I've been told the Muslim religeon is one of the fastest growing religeons in this country today...I don't know if this is true or not but this is what I have been told through two different sources. It does not surprise me one bit that the word "dhimmitude" was included in the bill originally. I say this because I believe in all my heart that Obama is a true supporter of the Muslims...I seriously believe this.

I'm not sure if this thread is about the definition of the word dhimmitude or if it's a thread to discuss healthcare, Obamacare, Democrats or Republicans. But what I do know is this...if for whatever reason(s), President Obama happens by chance to get re-elected....then this country is already (right now/today) in a far sadder shape than ANYONE realizes.

Getting back to the subject at hand, the Affordable Health Care Act is written in a fair way so that everyone that uses health services pays their fair share. Every one will pay into the insurance pool to spread the risks.

As far as the Medicare Vocher program is concerned there are two posibilities that would be implemented.

1) All seniors 65+will be grouped into one pool for insurance that will not have any lower risks participants. The cost of this insurance pool will be extremely high due to the health care costs of seniors.

2) All seniors that are 65+ today will be dumped into the private insurance pools driving the cost of private insurance beyond affordable for most. They do not have private insurance now, their health care is provided by Medicare. They are not in the private insurance pools now.

If you look at the Affordable Health Care Act in an objective mannor you will see the benifits it brings to the health care system.

Once again, here is the truth. Obamacare is not going to save money, it is going to cost the government and private companies (this means us in case you're not paying attention) unimaginable dollars. Obamacare is going to cause insurance rates (yep, paid by us too) to skyrocket.

With few exceptions, a fresh book of federal government mandates has never solved any problem in this country.

I truly hope it works, I hate the fact that they can tell us we have to buy it even though we are not sick. but I can see where if everyone is doing their part. it will or should help keep the cost down. and for the voucher deal, that is crazy to think the insurance company's competing with each other for the vouchers will keep the premiums low. it didn't work when they said we had to buy car insurance. the insurance company's get together on the prices they charge. just like big oil does on the gas per gallon prices. just as well flush the money down the drain, as to let the Insurance company's decide what everyone will be paying. Our health care system has flaws without a doubt, but it is still the best in the world. As I said before, the first place anyone anywhere, including the European countries where the government already administers health care come for serious treatment is right here.

This huge experiment is going to cost us dearly after the feds gear up a new bureaucracy to enforce these hopelessly complicated new rules. We've already got thousands of new IRS agents all set to penalize those who don't pay for health insurance, and you ain't seen nothing yet. BTW, the average fed employee salary is 100K a year plus bennies.

Think insurance rates are high now? Hang loose and watch what happens.

I don't give a hoot what the supreme court says, do you or anyone else in their right mind truly believe the federal government has the authority under the constitution to make us buy health insurance? No, as they've done time and again, self serving politicians legislate around the principles America was founded on.

no I wasn't kidding, try something was a loose term, try Affordable Health Care is what I should have said. and I to have paid dearly for health care insurance all my Adult life 40 years of working I'm 60. but 35 million people here in the USA don't have it as good as you and I, America does have the best health care in the world if you are blessed enough to have some kind of coverage. the penalty for not paying for the insurance plan, is supposed to keep the Insurance pool large enough to help keep the cost down. where it works or not, I don't think it will be a great improvement, but like I said try something. talking about health care every 4 years for 4 generations only leaves millions of people with no way to get treated for an issue. and I to don't like the Government in everything going on, but without the greedy Government, we would be much worse off. when the floods come, who do we look for, when the crops fail, who do we look for, when we get down sick and can't work for our family, who do we turn to. when kids going to collage with poor parents, who they look for. the list goes on and on. and I've worked for 5 different company's over my life span, and all 5 would take short cuts doing the job. to save the company time and money. I can't imagine the shape this country would be in without strict rules and regulations.

There are a good many places on the planet where you can look for clues to where we would be without government rules and regulations, Viet-Nam,Somalia,Ethiopia,and the list goes on.... Personalty I like living here and believe when it all shakes out, our government has given us a fairly good quality of life... The government sometimes stands in the way of the rich getting richer and that goes against the grain of the republican party.

I'm pretty sure that Viet Nam is communist. The others might be run by dictators, I don't know. Yeah I guess they are better off than we are. They have rulers that just right laws, regulations and mandates with a stroke of a pen. That never happens in this country. They have rulers that think the people need to be controlled, just like the Dem rep from Michigan who said the people need to be controlled through BOcare. They could care less about what the majority of their people think. Kind of like the majority of people who were against BOcare. They have a very poor opinion of wealthy people. That would never happen in this country. We are proud of those who are successful especially the ones that do it on their own. So yeah, we aren't anything like those other countries, we are the greatest capitalistic country in the world!
