The real test on him will be on how well he takes the hits through the season. I like him for his football skills and how he presents himself....that being said I thought he should have retired. If he can play for years and make millions or win another Super Bowl then that's awesome. No doubt he knows what's right for him not me.

Why would you think he should retire?
Should Brady retire? Just a few months of age difference and Brady had that knee issue or ankle.
Everything i have read on Mannings surgery states that his neck is better than it has been since injury, in 2006.

I'll say it, with Denvers run game, defense, special teams and leadership, they are gonna be a very, very scary team.

Yea that freakshow irsay got what he wanted in 1 overall, guess we will see how foolish it was.

Lots of difference between a knee surgery and a neck surgery. Some of the hits these guys take are vicious. Just seemed foolish to me but like I said he knows best! Don't get me wrong ill enjoy watching him command the field again I just hope he doesn't get whacked and stacked!

Either his neck surgery was minor or he is taking a very high risk. Most Neurosurgeons warn their patients, after surgery, to guard their neck against all types of trauma because it can fracture more easily. I have days (and nights) when my neck hurts so badly it feels like doctors put it back together with bubble gum and duct tape.

I'll be watching Peyton play and wish him much safety with his neck.

I understand how dangerous neck injuries are. They are equal among all nfl players, actually qbs (especially Peyton) are probably less at risk. Been several lbs and dbs have this same surgery that played years afterwards.

Keep in mind he had the surgery due to "comforrt" issues, during a lockout.
Without the lockout, its possible he doesnt have surgery.

I must say though, at thirty days less than thirty six years old, that hour of football i just played with my seven yr old sure makes me respect Manning,Nrady, Farver and all the other old men of the nfl that much more.

    OLD?

Any of you guys remember george blanda? He was a back up qb for the bears, and the place kicker.then the AFL got started, he was one of the premier qb's. YA Title, new york giants, when players went both ways[not that way you think bob], Guy looked like the poster child for buchanwald when he retired.

    manning

I think he should give it another year, todays football players are in much better shape han they were in the 50s. The playrs are bigger and faster, but IMHO the baseball players dont have the talent that was needed to get into the bigs long ago. Yes there are some great players today, but how many would have made a 16 team pro ?

You talk about the football players of today being bigger and stronger, and yes Peyton is bigger and stronger than most QB's back in the day, but so are the linebackers that are going to try to take his head off....It's also well known that when you have a public injury like that, guys are gonna try to get whatever ails you

Guys with knee or ankle injuries can come back and have no problems, but when you're talking about your neck you're opening a whole new can of worms....Any of the guys out there can take a hit and break their neck, but when yours is surgically repaired, it becomes a weak spot....It's like taking a piece of steel, cutting it in half, and spot welding it back together....If it's gonna break, it's gonna be at the welds...I respect Peyton for coming back, but would have liked to see him hang it up....He's been a helluva player for a lotta years, and a great ambassador for the game, and that's the way he should be remembered...Don't get me wrong though, he can still ball
