Hurricane Bob...I did the math a few years ago. Taking the guided trips are less expensive, plus the quality of fish are better too. All in all just an over all more enjoyable trip, at least for me anyway.
At one time I had three boats...a big river style 19' Jon-Boat (sold last year), this Searay cruiser that I'm about to sell soon and a little 14' v-bottom with a 20hp Johnson for the Cumberland River. I will not sell my v-Bottom, ain't gonna toss my waders in the garbage either. But all in all I guess I'm grasping onto a "less is more" mentallity. Tired of keeping up with the different tax bills, the maintenance and everything else that comes along with owning more stuff. As I mentioned previously...times change and so do people...that was then, this is now....and NOW that flyrod I have is looking better each day, lol...
