Fluoro leader breaking at the knot

I've noticed a lot of guys on here use braid with a fluorocarbon leader. On my spinning rig, I've been using 10lb powerpro with a 10lb fluoro(I think it's berkley vanish) leader this summer and I really like it. I absolutely believe flouro leads to more bites.

I use a double uni-knot to tie it. I use about an 8 ft leader on a 6'6' rod, so the knot is on the top layer on the spool.

The problem I've had a few times is the the knot will break on a cast, my bait goes sailing through the air and hopefully lands somewhere I can find it. Doesn't happen alot, just a handful of times over the summer; but once is too many for me.

Do I just need to re-tie more often, change my leader length? Is there something with the knot I might be doing wrong?

Is it breaking at the knot where you tie the leader to the braid or where you tie the leader to the bait....I've used several brands of fluoro, and Vanish is my least favorite....I had it trouble with it breaking a LOT...Thought I might have gotten a bad spool, picked up another one, and it did the same thing....The super glue on the knot from the leader to the braid is a great idea, and should be used any time possible

Vanish isnt very good, thats your biggest problem.

crazy alberto knot is the only way to go. I usually use a little glue as well. Directions included in the panphlet in the power pro box

Vanish is junk in my opinion. Have you tried spooling entire reel with flouro?

I don't make enough to spool a reel entirely with flouro. Man that stuff is spendy.

Figure 200 yds for 18 bucks........now 10 reels......that is 200 bucks. Or 100 bucks if you only fill with 100 yds.

LOTS of jack, and if you fish a lot, you will be replacing that 3 times a year. DEFINITELY lots of jack.

The double uni knot is the only knot I will tie fluorocarbon to a bait with. You can experiment with lots of others but I can save you some time ....Double uni only!! I like alot of people just about wrote fluoro off because of the amount of break offs but if you tie the right knot you dont have to worry about breaking line at the knot. There are plenty of good lines and everybody has there opinions for me Gama and sunline shooter or sniper are at the top of the list. Trilene 100% is my third choice and its more affordable. .....Just my two cents , Jarrod

I just tried the alberto, I really like it. Saw a video on knot wars and it beat the double uni too.

It's a much smoother knot than the double uni, nice and compact. The uni would bang on the eyes a bit sometimes, but the alberto slides right through. Easy to tie after a just a couple practice knots.

I will try some different fluoro too, but I think this knot is going to be my new fave for leaders.
