This again supports the need to make every effort to get off the oil. If its not Lybia it's Iran, if not Iran its Iraq. This muslim extremism is epidemic. Shows just how dangerous religious extremism can be.

I think the founding fathers of our country saw this and this is why we have seperation of church and state.

If we did not supply the muslim world with cash from big oil 90% of this problem would disapate.

Energy independence is not going to come from drill baby drill, its going yo come from renewable energy from the sun, wind and grains (or other organic crops).

Why don't we drill baby drill while investing in affordable alternatives. R&D is what costs the most, why not have the government invest in the R&D to make alternatives more affordable? In the mean time Drill Baby Drill! Do you know how much it would help the economy if we reopened coal mines, drilled offshore, opened the XL pipeline?

Good point. Most that promote the drill baby drill position do not consider RD for alternative energy sources. Drill baby drill is just not the long term solution, would help in the short term (depending on were the profits go). Any lease of lands for oil drilling should be based on a royalty payment. The oil on federal lands belongs to US citizens not BP.

Second we need to keep a lot of this oil in reserve. The have been a lot of countries that have depleted a natural resourse and paid the price later.

Once again there has to be a multi effort. Each side has to acknowledge the benifits and short comings of all positions and try and use the best of both.

Need to get away from this "my way or no way" mentality.

I don' think I've ever heard of one Conservative saying that oil is the only way to go. I have heard liberals say that their policies will cause our energy bills to "necessarily skyrocket". I also heard it said that coal companies can try to stay in business, but the regulations and mandates that they put in place are designed to make them go bankrupt. We even went to Brazil and told them that we would be their best customer in their pursuit of deep water oil. Of course we can't do that here. Now that side of the isle is very clear on where they stand. They want to force us to go in a direction that doesn't exist yet. All that is going to do is cause all our energy costs to skyrocket. I paid $3.99 a gallon for gas last week. Where's the outrage? I don't see it on here or anywhere for that matter. Not on the news channels either. Must be Bushes fault. My favorite warm water discharge may be shut down this winter. Must be Bushes fault. I'm for the candidate that encourages ALL forms of energy, not wage war against certain forms of it that results in people being unemployed. I've heard it said that we are the Saudi Arabia of Natural Gas. That has to be worth Billions. We also have millions of barrels of oil in Shale. Lets go get it. Oil is what makes the world go round.
