    Fatal Vision

Has anyone seen the news about the possible retrial of Captain (Dr) Jeffery McDonald? I was at Fort Bragg when the events labeled "Fatal Vision" happened. McDonald was convicted of killing his pregnant wife and two other kids and is still in Jail for the crime. He claimed that he was out of the house when a Charles Manson type group of drugged up people killed his family.

At the time, 1970 I think, Fort Bragg was rampant with drug gangs and hippy communes, many of which were solders from the 82nd Airborne and other combat units that had been in Viet Nam. The post newspaper commented several times about the daily murders related to the drug sales and gangs. At least three and I think four times in the almost three years i was stationed there, we fell out for morning muster in the company street and found dead bodies. One time there were three dead guys (soldiers) in a car parked in the company street. We had to move reveille because of all the MPs and investigators. These were all drug related killings.

Anyhow, when the McDonald killings happened, almost everyone, except the police, believe that McDonald was telling the truth becase of other such incidents that had happened on or near Fort Bragg. Forty years later, the guy is sill in jail. He has been offered the possibility of parole at least three times, but each time the possibility was contingent on him admitting guilt. He has refused to do that and thus stayed in jail all this time because he wouldn't admit to the killings.

From what i read they have found DNA that they think can prove he didn't do it, I hope so for his sake. I just thought the whole thing was/is interesting.

Never write from memory, I have been told that McDonald was in the house but had been knocked out, stabbed, or something before the killings happened.

New book about the McDonald Case

I was always intrigued by this case, and just finished a new book about it: A Wilderness of Error: The Trials of Jeffery MacDonald by Errol Morris. I have always suspected he was innocent.

The same guy that did the HIT job on Sarah Palin...you know the douchebag that moved in next to her, is the guy who wrote Fatal Vision.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fatal_Vision

He TOTALLY screwed the guy. Joe McGinniss. He basically lived with the defense team, and "embedded himself" to write a story about MacDonald and how he WAS NOT GUILTY.

Joe figured out quickly that an innocent man in prison doesn't make for a good story so he flipped on all those folks that gave him access.

Joe McGinniss is a TOTAL tool, and quite frankly, one of the most vile, evil people on this planet.

    Later,

    Geo
