No, that is a 3:16 Lure Co. swimbait. Guy named Mickey Ellis makes them by hand in California. They are super expensive but a lot of the big bass chasers in California use his baits. If you get a chance to read the book "Sowbelly" it tells the story of how he got into building lures.

I usually buy a trout stamp just to increase the variety of fish that I fish for. I don't know about Cedar Creek but from what I've seen on the other FIN lakes the trout are mostly caught and removed within 2 weeks of them being stocked. My gut feeling is most of the people catching and taking them do not have a trout stamp either.

There is no doubt in my mind that the sole reason for the stocking isn't to increase opportunities for trout fishing.Rather, the main goal for cedar creek is to make it a trophy bass fishery. That's why the creel limit is 1 LM over 20" on Cedar, the goal is create a fatty rich forage for the Largemouths and I'm all for it. It's like feeding a body builder whey protein.

Tim, was just a bit interested in the reasoning behind KDFWR decision to stock the trout. Sure, read the press release, but still interested in the details behind the decision. Any inside info you can share would be appreciated. Kind of what this thread has been about?? Yea...

I don't have any inside info, but I might make a phone call and see what I can find out. My guess is, it is two-fold, it is to provide some trout fishing opportunity at that body of water, and they are probably wanting to see if they notice and big improvement in the size of the bass.

I was on the lake yesterday, the day of the stocking, and spoke with Fish and Wildlife and asked them what the deal on putting Trout in the lake was. I was told it was to make it a better winter fishery, one more species to fish for, and to bring in more funds for Fish and Wildlife. I took it that he meant more licenses will be sold along with Trout Stamps. I would think it will help the local economy (some) as far as dollars it will bring in, if people fish for these things this winter. I know of one shop it will help, I hope any way. I think that we agreed that the Bass will like them also. I got to meet the new Creel Inspector. Seemed like a nice guy to me, I took it he is new at this so keep that in mind if you run into him. I drove by 2 ramps and people where lined up fishing for them and catching them. I like to eat Trout myself so I will say I will try for them this winter, along with Bass fishing. I really don’t think it will make a huge difference as far as putting more boats on the lake, but I will say the bank fishing will get crowed. I am just hoping it won’t mean more trash on the banks.
