    Nolin report

Fished nolin Wednesday and Thursday. Caught all of the fish on jigs and crankbaits. Tons of little ones. The bass are feeding heavy on shad and found most of my fish in coves relating to cover anywhere from 8-15 feet.

did you catch any keepers? they should be starting to move up shallow. They should start pulling the lake big time the 15th of this month. One of my favorite times to fish.

No keepers just a few slots. Tons of 8-10 inchers.

Shallow stumps and brush piles flats channel swings. Take your pick. Go where the shad are, they're feeding up heavy before the winter.

I agree with fishinfreak, shallow stumps, rocks, brush piles. the only thing I want to add is be sure to have a square bill crank bait tied on. Probably my favorite bait to throw this time of year.

Wife and I took the Raider and went Friday, 5 Oct, and ramped in at Wax. We put in, and started just off the ramp trolling on the main engine at about 2.8 to 3 mph with Gizz Flitterbait-2 in Gizzard Gray and Green Back, along with white and chrome and black Bandit crank baits. We didn't even get out of the no wake zone heading north before we had the first 2 bass on, one 12in and one 14in. We continued up around the no wake and started up the river and got just passed the no ski markers and the pontoon dock and hit another bass. This one got was 1/2 way to the boat and came unbottoned. We turned around and pulled from there back thru the no wake, passed the ramp area, and on down to the bridge and hooked up 3 more times with similar sizes.

Not traditioner for bass guys, but do try some trolling.

Shad were up in schools are over the place from way up the river above Wax to clean down to Conoloway Creek. From there the schols of shad seemed to thin out. Some small white bass were on the top water feed in the jumps just outside the swiming area half way from Moutadier to the dam. We didn't hook up any of those, just sat with coffeee and watched the fun. Real small fish, in very small schools, but fun to watch.

Also saw 3 bald eagles, one mature female, and 2 juvenile eagles scouting things out. The 2 "juvies" were seen right after the bridge at Wax, and at the entrance to Conolway Creek. The mature bald eagle made a fast pass on the far side across from Moutadier.

Bluegills could not be caught close to the bank and shallow, but backing out 8 foot off the bank and down at 8 foot they were hitting night crawlers. So were small bass. We presented worms under slip bobbers.

We got off the lake at 9 pm, just before the wind came up and the temps dropped.
