On February 21, 1989, Yusuf Islam (formerly known as Cat Stevens) addressed students at Kingston University in London about his conversion to Islam and was asked about the controversy in the Muslim world and the fatwa calling for Salman Rushdie's execution (for his book "The Satanic Verses"). He replied, "He must be killed. The Qur'an makes it clear - if someone defames the prophet, then he must die."

I've always loved his music, and still do. Hate his politics, though.

Thanks for the response , I was hoping someone (you) would search out the some of the specifics. He expressed his opinion, not unlike many of us on this board?

Too late to edit, so's I guess I've to repost the with rest of the article you referenced, Newspapers quickly denounced what was seen as Yusuf Islam's support for the killing of Rushdie and the next day Yusuf released a statement saying that he was not personally encouraging anybody to be a vigilante,[2] and that he was only stating that blasphemy is a capital offense according to the Qur'an.

Now, for those who really want to know more of the man: Check out the interviews (links below)

I can very well remember the music of Cat Stevens when I was serving in the U.S. Army. I always like to denote "U.S." so everyone will know which army I was in!!

It didn't upset me when he converted to Islam, that is his right and something I served to protect. However, I did and still do take offense at calling for the death of another because it upsets Allah in some way.

I haven't listened to Cat Stevens since then. As far as I'm concerned, he can get right on stage with the Dixie Chicks and they can all sing their little hearts out to an empty audience.

Agreed......enough of the personal junk....I respect what Geo has to say alot more than FlyLie and his bomb tossing, it's just a fact. Geo can either back up what he believes with facts or thoughtful opinions or if he is wrong he apologizes for it.
It's always name calling, bomb tossing or whacky statements with flylie. Just post stuff and your opinion Mr FlyLie without trying to start something all the time. We all don't have to agree on politics but just because someone is more informed or has a deeper conviction on his beliefs it doesn't give you the green flag to consistently act like a 15 year old. I take it from your past posts that your an older man....well act like it. Treat people on here like you were talking to their face and not hiding behind a computer and things will be better.

Don, I'm quite sure the G_man can speak for himself. Further more, he knows who I am and we have met face to face. Nothing and nobody here hiding behind a keyboard! Now as to what he is searcing for, well just might be some reasonable references to back up his statements regarding the CAT.

And Yea, to Mr. T, it's bout 5:30 in the am. I'm an early riser. You all have a nice day now.

    Wrong. Wrong. And wrong.

Lyndon Johnson, a Democrat escalated it to a war in Vietnam.

Eisenhower, Truman, then Kennedy had 'advisers' in there, and provided material support when they were fighting ho Chi Minh as far back as the 40's.

'Tricky Tool' Nixon, a Republican ended the Vietnam war.

Look it up. Having lived it, I'd think you'd be aware of that.

Thanks for the correction, you are right, Lyndon Johnson was a Democrat! Nixon seems to be the one that sticks in my mind.
