my fishing goes back a long way, when thumb bars first came out they stick out from the reel more then now, it happened to me more than I would like to admit. ..... :-)

I've been in a funk lately the last two good fish I've hooked I've lost 1 I lost six inches from my hand wading in the creek gotta break the trend!
Try this on for size , ive hit my cigarette butt buring the line into on hook sets more than once .
When I down line for stripes I use a penn reels they have a lever you must engage to set the hook, twice I have had friends just rear back and set the hook, loose the fish, and foul up a lot of fishing line. Watched my cousin cut his line fighting a salmon with his cigarete.
nope, but my frog setup has the tenancy to feed out line when i set the hook makes for an interesting fight- lucky me i keep my thumb on the spool.
I was fishing a tournament and after setting the hook for the third time and breaking off at the rod tip. I found a small chip in the rod guide and when I set the hook it would cut it off. After taking the reel off I wonder if anyone ever got that rod out of that tree on Nolin.
Yea buddy. Stripers and Penn 209's have always been an adventure for me.
Taken in another context: I've had this happen several times when I laid an award winning line on a hottie at a bar, and then noticed my wedding ring on my beer holding hand as I toasted her shy smile.
Same feeling, different situation. Ya set the hook, and come away empty handed and broken hearted. :-)
I got to learn to hold a beer with my right hand.
