Absolutely, there have been atrocities committed in the name of God in the 2000+ years of Christianity. But that ignores the overwhelming weight of the good done by Christians, and speaks to the corrupted nature of man, not Christianity. Around the world today, it is largely Christians who are feeding the hungry and taking care of those unable to take care of themselves.

I agree christianity has been the catalyst for untold help for those in need world wide but I'm not sure faith in a higher power is the reason for that... Christianity is just one leg of the religious world and don't know if I can put my finger on the same kinds of things from the muslim world or the several other religions on the planet... Personally I believe the good people do comes from their compassion rather than from their faith... Over the lifetime of religion since it's inception, The good that has been done by the religious world would pale in comparison to the atrocities committed in the name of their respective gods.
