    Het Mitt I agree[mostly]

Getting rid of FEMA wouldn't cause me to lose any sleep! Its first and formost for the government to protect the national interests. State disasters are just that. Let states handle the local costs. But the private sector help? Like what is it? I dont feel real sorry for beach front home owners watching thr house float away. same with hurricane damage, thats what insurance is for.In a major earth quake, federal infastrcture should be the main concern of the government. Fed. highways and bridges. Rail lines? Do we have a federal rail road?

I agree FEMA is another overused program that has lost it's way. No tax dollars should help a private citizen rebuild his or her home. States should provide help as needed....doesn't make sense for tax dollars collected in Kansas helping pay for a Hurricane damaged home in Florida. If states can't handle their disaster then the next step is the feds but it seems anytime we have a storm Fema gets fired up and starts spending money. I bet they are still giving money to Katrina victims. It's like another Welfare program.
