    Trolling Motor Si Units

I completely disagree with the statement that SI units aren't good at the trolling motor. I have a 798 ci si on the trolling motor & a 581 I 2-D unit at the console. You can simply adjust scroll speed either up or down as needed & also adjust noise filter if your getting interference lines on the display. Also if your really busy turning the head of the troller a lot it will skew picture some, but the images still pop out at you. You can adjust scroll speed some to help with this. You can also turn troller head very slow to scout things out like shooting under docks & such. When I was buying an si unit I read many comments just like Crappy-Pappys( no harm meant towards you pappy) & almost put my unit at console, but after reading & looking at images on Bass Boat Central (www.bbcboards.net) & the unofficial humminbird forum I put my si unit on the trolling motor & really glad of it. Another thing with it being up front is when trying to fish an offshore waypoint you've marked with the si unit on trolling motor is you'll always be facing towards your waypoint. Si up front can also show you if a large school is just out of range of your cast as a big school can only be 10 or so feet out of your cast range & you'll know it with si up front. Di & Si both work extremely well up front after you get used to operating them. Way better than just at the console & honestly10 to 1 in my opinion. Why not have both where you fish most times ???

No offense taken, Les ..... except my screen name is CRAPPIEpappy (not Crappy pappy) LOL !!!

It was not my intention to persuade anyone to not purchase a SI or DI unit, nor where to put it. I just wanted to put out a little friendly warning that there would/could be issues to contend with. Glad to see that you have overcome those issues & made your SI unit work for you, where you chose to put it.
I, too, have begun to overcome the skewed image problem from my DI unit being mounted on the TM. I just didn't know all that much about DI units, when I purchased it, and went thru a period of doubting whether or not I'd made a wise choice. The more I get to use it, and the more I understand how it works & how to work it ... the less doubt I'm having. I just wanted to make sure that the "possibilities" of issues, from lack of knowledge of those issues, did not deter the purchase or placement of the unit ... without careful consideration by the purchaser.
I have no working experience with an SI unit ... and was just repeating what I've heard from owners of SI units that are members of another website that I happen to be a member of, and trust to give me the skinny on them. Obviously there are ways to overcome any issues, with ingenuity or a make do attitude ... and many of my fellow Crappie anglers are using their SI units on the TM, as well. It's just that a majority of them preferred to transom mount their units, once the potential issues were brought to light.

Good fishing to you, brother !!

I like my si unit at the console for the simple fact that when i want to look at something im typically idleing/searching. I can see where it would be different for a crappie fisherman as opposed to a bass fisherman. As a bass fisherman im happy with where i chose to place my units. Again im not trying to knock anybodys opinion, just stating mine
