Yes, it is the radiologist, they always have a trained radiologist x-rays examine them. Basically pretty standard procedure, I have had numerous x-rays, C-scans, and MRI's and even if the specialist looks at them himself, they still are always read by an actual radiologist.

You're right though, it is expensive. Even for something simple it usually isn't cheap. Personally I have a very large deductible, so I am in the same boat as you, and often end up having to pay much of the bill myself. But do check and make sure of your deductible, because once that is satisfied you should be liable for much less. Also if you are close to your deductible and she will need any more procedures, try and have them done this calendar year so as to save some money.
