    KY Lake

Back from Ky Lake and boy was that trip a disapointment. We fished hard for a least 16 hrs every day and only caught 3 keepers and they came from below Barkley Dam at night. We fished every thing North of the 68 bridge both sides with everything in the boat. Caught maybe 10 small fish all weekend. There was a big tourney going on and I talked to several of the guys and didn't find anyone of them with fish. There was a small tourney out of Moores and that we watched several fish weight in but nothing that great. I don't know if I will be going back there any time soon. If I went down again I think I would stay on Barkley. I did save the trip by stopping at Nolin on the way back. We caught about 60 in 8 hrs on wind blown deep walls with Black and silver square bill and white spinner baits.

Sorry to hear the fishing was tough - KY Lake is always tough to fish in the fall. I never thought I would hear someone say "I saved our KY Lake fishing trip by stoping by Nolin..." but that puts things into perspective I guess. Maybe we should start a new thread: "Top 10 lakes to bass fish in KY in the FALL".

Glad you got into them on Nolin and thanks for the report.

I got back from KY Lake last night, fished the R&W classic....We fished hard all week on KY and didnt do too well, so I went to Barkley on Sat and Sun and found a few....We only had around 22lbs over the 2 day tournament so we didn't fair well but atleast we did catch somethin....Sat we caught over 100lbs of drum fishing for bass and Sun we had 5 drum that woulda weighed around 50lbs....They kept things interesting even though the bass weren't biting great for us....The guys who won weighed in a 23.5lb sack Sunday with two really nice smallies in it....Took almost 29lbs over 2 days to get in the money (top 9) and took somewhere around 42-43lbs to win....Lots of 12-15lb bags weighed in both days

Fished North Barkley with Mark Menendez Sunday and it was tough. Pulled the lakes about 2 feet in 4 days which pulled everything in the creeks out to the points. All my typical fall spots back in creeks were like the dead sea. Very strange for this time of year. We finally got on some schooling fish at the mouths of a few bays. Caught about 30 on KVD 1.5, Strike king series 3 and Red eye shad. It's always a beautiful time on the lake. It's also amazing the knowledge Mark has on those lakes. He'll drive 5 miles to fish one stump and catch a limit on it. The funny part about the trip for me was driving home this morning. I stopped at Fenton in my suit and caught a 5 right off the riprap. She was sunning on the rock right in front of me and I dropped a senko on her nose.

Not glad to hear others had a hard time.

Sorry to hear I was not the only one not to get into schools of big bass. You guys do put a little bit confidence that I am not as bad at bass fishing as I felt l was when I left Sunday. That was the first time I every fished that Ky Lake and kind of had a feeling that I should of been fishing Barkley more as the water was falling. My weekness is when the lakes or rivers water is falling. I don't really know how to fish these times.
