nd theMy step dad was career military, he went in years before WW11, he was looked at like a leech, because there were food lines because of the depression. After the war, when he retired and got a job, him and other vets who worked were critized for working and getting government pensions, how soon they forgot what the soldiers did to deserve that pension. We lived on an army air force base for almost a year, and I really liked going to the mess hall with him on a sunday morning, and truly liked SOS.I never took any of my GI benefits, didn't need them, still dont. But I'm also on a fixed income,I get a pension, that hasn't and wont ever go up, and always fear that envelope from my former employer telling me they are dis-continuing the pension.I pay for my supplemental insurance also. and it keeps going up also.Theres a hell of a lot us in that boat. I enjoyed some of my years in the service, and was fortunate that there was peace, I enlisted, went over seas for 29 months, and am proud of my service, and respect ALL service men, past and present.I support the charities that look after vets, DAV, VFW, PAV of america, and the USO, every month with out fail I recieve those letters asking for cash, and have answered all of them, not with thousands, but with money I could use for some for some other nonsence. Got enough adress labels, greeting cards to last two life times. Went to funeral of one of my hunting buddys, who came home from nam, because he needed to drop out of school. the draft got him.Our grandson had two afgan tours and part of of one iraq, now hes in japan.
