Trouble With Lowrance X51, Need Help!

    Guys,

I have an X51 in my console and it started losing the bottom and then shows depths like 1450'. It has the transducer shooting through the hull and was installed at the factory. Does that sound like the transducer or the unit. I can't even see the transducer so I assume it's under the tank. Is there some easy way to test the unit. Any advice will help.

Try putting a few gallons of water in the bilge. If that improves it, your transducer needs to be re-glued.

Here are some lowrance phone numbers.

Sometimes they give you standard answers and or send a new transducer without really analyzing the problem.
If you dont like what you are hearing try to talk to somebody else.
If the problem is not the glueing of the transducer and you have to send the unit in allow for a month before it comes back.

    Try this too.

If your unit has a ckeckbox for manual mode try turning it off.
(this is not a setting that turns the unit on and off from a ful automatic mode)
Set the depth to something deeper than the water you are in and see what happens.
The upper depth limit would be set to the surface
    Easy to try.

The above does "seem" to fix this problem on my elite 5 (mine reading 1.2 feet and flashing) ....so far but who knows. I was ready to try purchasing an airmar transducer to see if that would fix the problem but the above seems to have stabalized the problem but it is hard to know for sure because you cant reproduce and fix the problem at will.

Also try updating the software in the unit.

Try not to go crazy figuring this out. Lowrance has problems with this.

    In agreement

I agree with catfan sounds like transducer has come loose. May have to clean and re-epoxy it.

Just came in from checking the transducer and it seems like it's still glued good. I understand that my not be the case just from pulling on it. I guess my next question wold be as tight as it seems to be how does one go about getting it off so it can be re-glued.
