IMHO, it depends on the types of cranks you are throwing. If it's a small crank, or relatively shallow runner..I think you benefit more from a lighter rod, and lighter line. In contrast, if you are throwing 3/4 oz deep divers into 25 ft of water, I think a little heavier rod helps out more.

As far as reel and line, it's always the same for me anyway. 5.0:1 reel, and seaguar invizX flourocarbon line, just different sizes..anywhere from 6 lb test for smaller stuff, and up to 12 for bigger baits.
