I just bought a 7 foot 6 ugly stick casting rod. It is split grip med-heavy and fifty bucks. It is an awesome rod. The tip is light enough i could crappie fish with it but the backbone is strong enough i landed two muskies this last sunday. Awesome casting rod and the one i have is compatible with openface reels.

I like the XPS Extreme Rods for spinnerbaits/crankbaits/topwater and the Abu Garcia Veritas rods for pitching and flipping. I have one all star rod that I use for carolina rig but it feels as heavy as a rock compared to the veritas...might sell that one and pick up a 7'3" veritas medium heavy.

My club. Central Kentucky Bassmasters have a deal with Dobyns Rods. If you are a member of the club ( We are accepting new members for next year) I can get you a certificate for 40% off. You will not find a better rod for around 80 bucks.

I had the pleasure of both of having to have repairs done on BOTH heat pumps! So I decided I will wait until next year to get some new rods.

But just so you know so far my favorite 2 rods for under $100 are the following (these are current prices on bass pro)

St Croix mojo bass ($99.99) <----- St Croix has a great deal going right now- buy 2 or more rods totaling $230, and they will send you a St Croix rage rod (all you have to do is pay for the shipping $19.99 . You can see the offer on bass pro.

    Element 21 Carrot Stix ($99.99)

Of these two poles which one would you folks pick??? Most of all - throw in the rods you folks mentioned - how would they compare to these two I mentioned????

I really like the Field & Stream Tec Spec rods at ****'s Sporting Goods. The currently sell for $80. They are very light weight and strong. I've had the cranking version for 2 years and I use it a lot and have pulled in a bunch of fish in the 4-5 pound range. The biggest one on the rod was 6.4. As I replace my older rods I will go with these. I understand they are made by Shimano. At least that's what my brother-in-law told me. He has a couple of them and he also recommends them.

I bought my dad a shimano a couple years back it was $100 but can't remember which rod it was. He seems very satisfied with it. I have BPS extreme that I broke the tip on years back and it's still one of my favorites.
tackle warehouse has started their 25 days of Christmas sale so i would watch that for some deals.
