[QUOTE=GeoFisher;502990]OK......so I've got a pretty little 7 series hummingbird on the back and a 5 series on the front.

24v trolling system on separate batteries.
12v cranking battery that is also configured to run all accessories. Lights bilge, finders, etc, etc.

The front finder has a transducer on the trolling motor. It works flawlessly, no noise, no issues...works great.

The back finder has noise problems whenever you hit the trolling motor.......I've tried everything, including the following:

1). Ran separate wires on opposite side of the boat to the battery from the finder. NO go. Still noise.
2). Put noise chokes on those wires.........Still noise.
3). Put noise chokes on the trolling motor power wires..........Still noise.
4). Put noise chokes on all the power wires above AND on the Transducer.....Still noise.
5). Temp soldered a ground wire to the trolling motor housing, and then ran this to the negative post of the battery.....Still NOISE.

The ONLY thing that eliminated the noise was to grab a separate battery, outside of the boat, and hook the fish finder to that. That worked, but I don't have room in the boat for another battery. This is really honking me off.

Does anyone have an idea that I can try to help resolve the noise problems.

I don't get noise while running the main outboard........only when running the Trolling Motor. I'm assuming I have a ground loop issue, but I'm at my end trying to resolve it.

Mine is doing the same thing, like you I have tried every thing, including what the HB guys told me to do, like run a wire to the TM back to the cranking battery. I even replaced the TM with a new one, no luck, Bought new batteries, ran a seperate ground to fuse block, choke cables, ran new heaver power and ground wire just to the unit. The only thing I have not done and will do it soon is to put a rubber backing on fuse block. So if you find an answer, please let us know.

One question gor you, is your boat Glass or alum?

Did you by chance put a fuse block in it your self? The reason i am asking is maybe the fuse block screwed to the boat just might be the cause. That is why I am going to put rubber behind mine so nothing is touching the boat. I also have a alum boat. I have only heard of this issue in alum boats. I also have a alum boat.

The fuse block is standard and came with the boat.

I've ran 2 finders for EVER on the boat and only started having problems last year, when I had to replace the armature in the trolling motor.

I KNOW that is the problem, but wanted to try to resolve it before working on a different TM path.

Also, when I put in a completely separate battery just attached to the finder, all the problems are gone. Unfortunately, I don't have room for JUST a batter for the finder.......although, I might figure out a way to put a smaller 12 v gell cell in there, and simply recharge it some other way.............

My fish finder just started having noise from the trolling motor as well. I have had the unit three years and never had (or noticed) a problem before.

I recently fished Dale and thought I was seeing stake beds in every creek I went to until I realized that every time I hit the trolling motor another "stake bed" would appear. (I was wondering who had built these perfect looking stake beds in 45 feet of water.)

The unit is a 997 and the trolling motor is a Maxxum 80. The finder is mounted by the console and the 'ducer is on the back (i don't have a bow unit yet). The TM cables go up the other side of the boat and I run the finder off of the cranking battery.

I did recently replace the top of the trolling motor because the directional arrow had broke. I thought I had improved (if anything) all wiring connections in the TM when I had it apart. I think I will take another look in there and see if something doesn't look right.

    Good Luck with yours

Geo you could get a motorcycle battery and run your depth finder, I think that is what serious ice fishermen use. Have you tried slapping it?

    Cool noise

I Had a problem like that and it was bleeding back through the on board charger three bank and had to put toggle switch on the batt charging wire of the motor battery so I could kept trolling motor noise from bleeding through to depth finder sw to off when on water.

2 bank here, but THANKS for the idea.......maybe it will help someone else.

I finally broke down and purchased a 70 dollar CHOKE from hummingbird that goes inline to the trolling motor. This choke basically cleans up the power before actually making it to the trolling motor.

While it didn't completely eliminate the noise, it definitely made is more usable.

I'm still tinkering, and I like the grounding issue above. I actually tried something similar by taking the trolling motor, and directly grounding to the cranking battery.......I also grounded the tm batteries to the cranking battery, eliminating any possibility for a bad ground loop.

NOISE is very painful to eliminate.

You said you had a 7 series in the back and a 5 series on the front. If the transducer and power wires are the same switch the front unit with the back. If it still has noise at the console after you switch then I would assume it is the wiring. After the switch if the noise is up front then I would say it is the head unit.

I have not done that, but DEFINITELY will..............maybe it is in the unit.

    Thanks,
