I purchased a hummingbird DI 788 series......works GREAT. Has built in lakefinder maps, which are not too bad, but I upgraded to Navionics East chipset.
I purchased the unit for 699 from a cousin that runs a shop......good shop, and I think that deal is still available, but I bet you can find that finder for that price or better now.
The mapchip was another 150 bucks though

I have a Humminbird 581 I ( I meaning internal gps antenna) that has been flawless. It's a black & white unit, but color has never been an issuue for me. It does very well with a navionics classic east map card. I also have a Humminbird 798 ci si on the trolling motor for side & down imaging up front where it counts. I really like both of my units & they have performed flawlessly. You can also look in the electronics forum on Bass Boat Central(bbcboards.net) & find some very nice deals on good used electronics.
Sent you a pm.
Here is where I bought mine. Cheap and awesome customer service.

Never had a very good one and got addicted to catching strippers this year. Our best pod we put 14 in the boat between 3 of us,I'm what you say "All in now". Never really fished for stripes but after that awesome 2 days on c- land in the jumps I'm hooked. We go to Canada once a year and got in to a bunch of pike feeding in a grass bed that lasted about an hour and half, that was undescribeable
BBG Marine has pretty decent prices, so does Universal Mania.
If I could live with a smaller creen I would look into the Humminbird 597 HD. It will run you close to 500 but it will have internal gps. If you wait until tacklewarehouse or West Marine has a 20% off sale it will be hard to beat the price on a Navionics card if you wish to add one. http://www.universalmania.com/_e/Mar...i_HD_Combo.htm
I do advise the new HD models, I have an 898 and wish it was brighter.
BBC electronics forums also has used stuff listed alot/
Check out the new Lowrance Elite 7 with Navionics Premium Chip
