    The 50s

    yes they did, but not to the extent that its happening now.And I cant recall any mass attacks targetting children. Of course there are a heck of a lot more of us now, than then. Television wasn't as violent, and the first video games in the late 60s were not gory. There isn't any easy or practical solution to this, its going to happen again. Maybe just reading about it in the paper, or hearing it on the radio might lessen some of the copy catness to it. who knows

    I feel you Ryan I do brother. This thing has hurt me and brought me to tears and I ain't ashamed to tell you all that. I have no answers other than society today is in terrible shape. We let criminals go because we don't have room to house them. People ignore major warning signs of others that have obvious issues.

    There is no way in Hell anybody can tell me a 20 year old boy capable of this didn't show warning signs and probably a bunch of them. People if you know something is this broke, help to get it fixed or maybe even put away in a mental facilty or what not.

    I'm just sick over this and my wife can't quit crying. God please help the families...

    I dont care who the turd was, or how many guns or shots he fired. Burn the corpse, throw the ashes in landfill, and be done with it. This excessive coverage of this crap seems to spawn more of it.Sickos home in on it. The more we broadcastit, and the worse it gets. I wont watch anymore of it.My God, we are reaping what we sew, dosn't anyone understand that?

    And I definitely agree with you the excessive coverage of this will spawn copycats. If there was no coverage, it WASN'T spoke of, there would be no glorification (in his sick mind obviously) of this cowardly, sick act.

    No simple fix

    Gun control is NOT the answer.Arming teachers? there are wacko teachers too.Screening for mental illness? Who decides? If screening for suspects was valid,why are there opposing views that are valid?And if judged, what then. Not all mentaly ill are dangerous to others. Imprisonment for what someone might do? When I watch a news person poke a mjke into a grieving persons face, I'd like shove that piece of material up the ass of that reporter.YET we want and demand the sick details.Whose nuts? Ahem!

    Gun control is not the answer. If that killer set out to kill little children and no gun was available; he could have done it with a knife or a machete. That gun control crap is a lot of baloney.

    I found this link and wanted to share it.

    Not to minimize what has happened.

    I was shocked by how long this really has been going on.

    List of school shootings in the United States - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

    Example:May 18, 1927: Bath, Michigan School treasurer Andrew Kehoe, after killing his wife and destroying his house and farm, blew up the Bath Consolidated School by detonating dynamite in the basement of the school, killing 38 people, mostly children. He then pulled up to the school in his Ford car, then set off a truck bomb, killing himself and four others. Only one shot was fired in order to detonate dynamite in the car. This was the deadliest act of mass murder at a school in the United States.

    A partial Summary:

    And if you hit the link and scrollway down, note no shooting occurred, according to this, between 2009 and 2012. What did we get right during those 3 years?

    To look at it the other way, duing the time frame in the article 1853 to 2012 (159 years), how many hundreds of millions have attended school at elementary, high school or college, and never seen or heard of such an act occuring?

    You're RIGHT.......this piece of **** had mental issues, and his brother even stated it. THIS **** needs to end......AND media immediately wants to point to gun control. Gun control is not the answer.

    When I was in High School, my World Affairs teacher open carried EVERY DAY. He was a bad ass, and when asked about it, he bluntly stated, because it was his right, and if the **** hit the fan, he was going down shooting. He was one squared away ex POW MARINE, and a great teacher.

    We trust educators with our kids all day, everyday, yet we'd never allow them to be active participants in the second amendment......

    Later,

    Geo

    Maybe this can help answer some of our questions, and give us some hope.
    Some things just defy our understanding. As tragic as this occurence is, I want to keep in mind the millions of honesty, ethical, moral, just people we call fellow Americans. Prudence dictates precautions and prevention, not hysteria or extremes or whims.
    Nothing below brings back any who passed. But it may give those of us left behind a will to improve, and overcome one tragic exception to what we all aspire to be.

    If.... by Rudyard Kipling
    If you can keep your head when all about you
    Are losing theirs and blaming it on you;
    If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
    But make allowance for their doubting too:
    If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
    Or, being lied about, don't deal in lies,
    Or being hated don't give way to hating,
    And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise;

    If you can dream — and not make dreams your master;
    If you can think — and not make thoughts your aim,
    If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
    And treat those two impostors just the same:.
    If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
    Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
    Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
    And stoop and build'em up with worn-out tools;

    If you can make one heap of all your winnings
    And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
    And lose, and start again at your beginnings,
    And never breathe a word about your loss:
    If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
    To serve your turn long after they are gone,
    And so hold on when there is nothing in you
    Except the Will which says to them: "Hold on!"

    If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
    Or walk with Kings — nor lose the common touch,
    If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you,
    If all men count with you, but none too much:
    If you can fill the unforgiving minute
    With sixty seconds' worth of distance run,
    Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
    And which is more; you'll be a Man, my son!

    I heard on the radio yesterday that a study showed that the number of mass killings has remained virtually unchanged for decades. There wasn't any data they discussed about children vs. adults that I heard.

    I think you're right, though, about the impact of TV and the copycat factor.
