Something you won't see in the mainstream media...

Knowing that there was another public shooting this week, at Clackamas Mall...I stumbled upon this on a gun site I visit.

My hats off to this young man for being a responsible concealed carry holder. I can't imagine being in this position, but it is the very reason why many of us that carry do so.

The shoot-don't shoot decision has to be made in an instant, under emotional duress...and I feel like most casual carriers might have botched it in this situation.

The kid made the right call here.

What many nimrods fail to take away from this situation is that once confronted by someone who was not innocent, not easy prey, not someone who made the shooter feel superior and in control...he retreated to a stairwell and fired one more shot - Into his own warped brain.

Think about that for a minute.

Nick Meli is a hero in my opinion.

He will get little recognition though, because the media and lawmakers are too busy trying to ban guns as the problem here.

No one knows what they will do in that situation. He prolly did more than I would have done. These days who can tell what will happen to someone who shoots a crazy gunman. I think I would hold my gun ready and my loved ones close and if we were threatened up close Im pretty sure I would shoot. It's just so hard to imagine.

In the end he did the right thing......if he would have shot him I have no doubt that some freaking lawyer and whacko family member would go after him in court.

I also agree that the media will not give this as much attention because it doesn't fit their agenda of reporting on Murder, Rape, Robberies and controversy.

I like to think that I would have drawn and tried to stop the gunman from killing more innocents, me, or those with me. Having not been in that situation, I just don't know. I know I can use my gun. I know I can draw it, point it, and hit a target...but I don't know how my brain would react in that situation, because I haven't been there. Once drawn, I don't know that I would have had the instinct and training to NOT fire...tunnel vision may have taken over for me...just being honest...which is a bad thing. I don't know. I may have frozen in shock and pissed myself too.

Drawing that pistol presents a huge risk...you are all-in at that point...no going back.

My Dad had a revolver pointed at his face, point blank, standing in line at a Winn Dixie years ago as it was being robbed. He said he didn't really panic or feel overwhelming fear - all that was going through his mind was thoughts about what could be sitting around him to use as a weapon...and he remembers focusing on a can of pork-n-beans on the conveyor belt in front of him, wondering if he could get to it and get it upside the guys head if he started shooting people. True story.

    tough question

yes that guy did the right thing. But I wont conceal and carry. One time I fired towards some guys attempting to break into my truck at a ramp on cumberland.Never tried to hit them, but they got the message, so did I minutes later when a russel cty squad showed up.Thankully he under stood, and told me to leave, and find a better ramp. Now I see postings about firearms being prohibbited. When I lived in the boonies, armed to the teeth, now

Been there twice and was lucky each time. This was many years ago but based on things I have heard I wouldn't go back. A few places like that on Laurel as well.
