Patoka Lake

Thinking about heading up there to do some bass fishing and was wondering if anyone had any advice. Ive never fished Patoka when the water is this cold so anything would be helpful. Will probably be fishing the Lick Fork area most likely. I guess if the bass arent biting I can always catch a few crappie!

I was there on Sunday 12/16. Fished Little Patoka only. Water temp was 44-45 degrees. Water color was stained to clear....not as clear as it is normally due to the rains on Sat I assume.

I saw fish suspended on the graph around 8 feet on leeward side of main points. No jumps at all. I had 1 hit a crankbait but lost it halfway to the boat. Threw everything but they were lazy!

I did not see another boat all day.

Fish very slow at this time of the years with the water being so cold. Fish are cold blooded and slow down with the cold water temperatures. They still need food but not as much or as often as their metabolism slows down in the winter months.

Good luck and enjoy the outdoors. Remember it's the journey not the destination that counts.

Any day out on the water beats a day at work.

try tight wobbling crankbaits with a slow and steady retrieve

thanks for the advice guys! ill most likely hit up some rock banks and throw a crank or a shakey head. thats what ive had my most success with in the past.
