I have a few of both styles...s-curve & honeycomb. I am partial to the Micro Honeycomb rods though. I have not had any issues with either style.
The reels are decent but I prefer other brands. Both my boys have skeet reese reels and have had good luck with them.
Skeets rods are tailored to a specific bait and/or technique, Ideally for bass fishing use. So If you are looking for a general purpose/multi species rod you may want to consider the s-curves style.
Furthermore, Dicks Sporting Goods offer an inexpensive warranty option that can be purchased at time of check out for "most" of there rods. I have a friend that has broke a few rods (random brands) and has had no issue with them (Dicks Sporting Goods) sending him a gift card for the full amount. I'm sure Cabelas and Bass Pro offer the same warranty but I have no knowledge of how it works.
I have two of them. Got them when they first came out. Great rod great price, also have a couple friends with these rods and they like tgem also.
I have 3 honeycomb rods and 5 reels love them just got the finess rod about a week ago for winter fishin light as a feather. I've had the heavy cover rod for about a year no issues but I have heard some issues with them breaking. None got me so far
I have several and for the price I really like them. I have never broke one and have put a lot of pressure on some of them when I have been hung up. Some of them seem a little heavy compared to the high dollar rods.
I bought six of them and broke 4 in three fishing trips. I had never broke a rod until i bought them. I dont suggest buying them.
I have never used them but have broke rods that are made similar to the skeet rods I wouldn't trust them because of the way them use the thread tape to hold down the guides and theres better out there.
I owned one and have friends that own them, and just like with any rod some of them will break...They seem to break a bit more than others, but that's part of it....I hated the way the rod felt in my hands, they are extremely heavy compared to other brands I use (I haven't used the honeycomb and I'm sure they reduced the weight in them some)...If breakage is an issue for you, go for one of the lower end Shimanos like the Clarus or Compre that have lifetime warranties that they actually stand behind
TFO Rods
These are made by Temple Fork Outfitters in Texas and Gary Loomis designed these rods. They are light, strong, and have a replacement warranty of 35 bucks. i am knocking on wood as I type this, but I have never broken a rod while fishing other than a tip off of one that had the line wrapped around it or slamming them in the door. (all my fault by the way) .. The TFO Signature series are a combination of graphite and carbon fiber and the blanks do not bruise as easily as regular graphite or glass. the signature series are only 99 bucks. The Skeet Reese Rods are way too heavy in my opinion.
I only own one, the spinnerbait/worm rod. I wouldn't care to use it for worms, but as a spinnerbait rod, it's been fine. I also use it occasionally for spooks, lipless cranks, squarebills, and also, when I feel like throwing them, deep divers. Been a decent rod and I can't complain.
I have broke one carolina rigging. braid is too strong for theses rods. Mono and Flourocarbon work great no problems except with braid line.
