    Calling Dave Stewart...........fishing report

    So.......

I just got done watching KY Afield, and they are still reporting solid catches of fish on the Bama Rig down at KY and Barkley.

The report stated Limits of crappie and solid numbers of bass......40-50 fish a day along rocky shorelines......

    Does this seem right.........

If so....man oh man, I'm hauling the boat to KY next week instead of Dale Hollow.

George: The reports I have had over the past two weeks are mixed..basically feast or famine as far as the bass are concerned. I had a couple of reports of catches on the A-rig like you mentioned over the New Year's weekend...also had a couple of reports of guys having it very tough during the same period with only a few fish. What I have gleaned out of the reports I have received first hand is that the better bite has been south of the 68 bridge on deep points and channel swings with the A-rig and on shallow flats near deep drop offs with suspending jerk baits. The key here is to use your electronics and search out these areas for the deep schools. If you happen to come across a school that is active, the bite is on every cast or every other cast for as long as the feed lasts...as far as saying everyone is out there tearing them up with 40-50 fish everyday....well that is total over exageration in my opinion..but the opportunity to have a day like that is there.

I have not had a lot of Crappie reports, but I was at a local tackle shop a couple of days ago and one of the better Crappie guides came in and he stated he had 37 Crappie the day before with 12 of them in the two pound range fishing hair jigs over deep brush. This guide is not prone to exageration as some folks I know are, so I certainly believe he did have that kind of day.

The present forecast for Friday and Saturday look good with the warm up...but not sure I trust the wind forecast for those days yet....normally if we get that kind of warm up, the south wind is much more than they are presently forecasting.

I was going to put up a report this past week but I hope to get a little more information from this past weekend before I do so. As you know, I am not prone to putting up reports this time of year without what I feel is enough solid information to make the report as accurate as I want my reports to be. I have not been out on the water over the past two weeks except a short trip to do a short film clip and we did catch a couple of fish on the A-rig and jerkbait in the 2.5 hours we were out there...but did not get into any real feeds...but then again I really was not out there to fish hard...just get a couple of fish for film and most of the time was taken up doing the intro and narration etc. I expect to have enough information this week and expect to put up a report later this week. I am hoping to get on the water at least one day this week myself, right now I am tied up teaching my Eliminating Water class every day but I do have two open days this week if the weather cooperates, I will be out there at least one day if someone does not book those dates to take my class.

Hey......MUCH thanks for the info. I've been off the water for about a month now, and I really need a fishin fix.

I usually buck it up and hit Dale Hollow for the fnf action, but this seems like it might be worth the effort to hit ky lake.

If I do, I will probably plan on staying south of 68/80 and trying to find some of those active feeders you're talking about.

    AGAIN.......Thanks.

I will let you know if I go, and what I do.

    Later,

    Geo
