I just don't doubt the ability and desires of this potus to limit anything. I think if he wants to ban something he will and if it means tying the decision up in courts for years then he gets what he wanted anyway. The idea that just because civilian AR-15's are being called assault rifles bothers me. Full auto machine guns used to be the assault weapons and now anything that has plastic grips and parts that make it look like the military weapons are being put under the umbrella of assault weapons.
The original ban was for full auto assault weapons which are still banned unless you have a federal license /permit. I think?? I know of no one who has a full auto weapon. Of course they don't want to stop there, hicap clips are evil too. We are talking seconds or nano seconds to drop a clip and reload but yet we need to spend time, money and effort to pass a law to stop something that isn't even a problem.
This gun restriction possibility sure seems like a convenient disrtaction from our real problems in this country.

From a citizen from another country looking at the US there is no way in H E double hockey sticks that your President would ever ban guns. No way ever. We get alot of news up here in Canada about the gun issue. It has been reported that if he decided to ban any type of gun it would be the machine gun/ assault rifle. I think they are the same thing but not sure. They were mainly created for the military I believe. I feel the police should also have them in their cars also. But it would be crazy to ban guns ie handguns and rifles from the taxpaying, law abiding, mentally stable Americans. I mean OMG you would have no defence against all the gun toting criminals and those who got them illegally. That would be so wrong. Besides he cant go against your constitution. I dont think Obama has the balls to do that. The only major decision I have seen him make was to give the command for the Navy Seals to kill Bin Laden. That was an excellent decision. But that was it. He knows that would be wrong. That maybe what you hear down there but that is not what we are hearing up here. I dont think that was a very smart thing for the VP to say but he has said inappropriate things before hasnt he? Dont worry folks he will not ban handguns or rifles for sure. JMO.

Also, not picking on you, because your comment is similar to how a lot of folks down here think when it comes to guns...but "machine guns" aren't the issue on this deal at all. Fully automatic weapons have been banned from the general population for a long long time, without certain permits and licenses. Most folks just don't have a clue what the difference between machine gun, automatic weapon, assault rifle, etc even is.

If the government ever tries to litterally take my guns I will kiss my wife and daughter, tell them how much I love them and send them somewhere safe. Then Joe dumbass Biden and whoever else they wanna send can come and get them from me and all my buddies from our safe place that we have already sanctioned and cached materials there. After they kill us and we take quite of few of them to Hell with us, they then and ONLY THEN CAN HAVE OUR FRICKIN GUNS!

I was thinking the same thing, I'm not sure what guys with this kind of thinking believe will happen to their wife and kids but it does sound like they aren't thinking of them at all... If your guns are more important than your family you need to do some serious rethinking about whats important in your life.

First.....there are 100 million gun owners, owning about 500 million guns. How are you going to collect them.

Second....the "collectors" are probably also owners........how are you going to collect from the collectors.

Third....many if not MOST of the collectors will probably opt not to collect and simply be owners to be collected from.

Fourth.........many if not MOST of the military......the might of the collectors are also owners, to be collected from. How do you deal with that.

Fifth........all of the above will be happening WHILE patriotic Americans take a stand, and defend their right to bear arms.
