The earned income credit does turn out to be a win-fall for some low income earners with kids but for the life of me I don't understand why we give this credit, not sure what it cost in tax dollars and from what I have seen of it, the folks who get it for the most part just wizz it away, it seems to serve very little purpose, folks who get it buy video games, new cell phones and every other kind of toy with it... I know several people who get this credit and know of very little practical use it serves.

Earned income buys GREAT big freakin big screen TV's for folks who have never EARNED a **** thing.

You know what......I make pretty **** good money and don't have a 46 in flat screen........

Give these folks a windfall does nothing but KEEP them on the program. Give them nothing, tell them to get their azz to work and WORK MORE to support their families.

If they have to work 80 or 90 hours a week at 2 or 3 jobs......SO WHAT. People did it for years. People STILL do it.

I'm tired if giving money to folks. TIRED.

They do have to actually work to to qualify for the credit, it is based on their earned income but it is called a refundable credit, even if nothing was taken out of their income as tax whatever the credit is is given to them.

My daughter and her husband get earned income credit because of my grandson. Both work (daughter part time, son in law full time) while both go to school full time. They have lived on their own since they were married three years ago. I was at their apartment Saturday to pick up my grandson to take him to the monster trucks and must have missed the big flat screen tv, the fancy cars etc. I swear you guys see a couple of people defrauding the system and assume that everyone does it. It is f-n ridiculous.

I understand that Tim, and it is a bad assumption on my part.

I too know quite a bit of folks that get it too........BUT I also know a lot of those folks that use the "earned" income as a windfall and do stupid things with it.

If the gubment insists on distributing "earned" income, then it should be distributed in very SPECIFIC methods to guarantee it is used effectively.

When you accept a handout from the uncle Sugar, you should NOT have expectations of privacy or whatever when spending it.

And they key that you stated here......I suspect their usage of earned income is temporary because they are both trying to better themselves.

My whole point with these types of programs is they should have expiration dates.

Well lets be fair here....we have all seen alot more than a few abuse the system. Even had Bobby on here talking about how the abuse is worse than ever and that's his job at the state processing this stuff.
Your touchy on this because of your daughter and grandson. No one assumes everyone does it and that has been stated on more than one occasion. So I say to you, relax man nobody picked you or your family out on this, why would I or we do that??
We all have family who have struggled and fought to get ahead...at least I do but I still can see the abuse that takes place without getting upset. Hell my sister lived at home until she was 40 years old with a child. She lived like a Queen since my parents let her and all the while mean old big bro was knocking her on not saving money and moving out. Well why would she? She had it made!! Now years later she struggles, little to no credit, her daughter moved back in with my mom and my sister lives by herself in a condo which is a waste of cash. So like I said we all have a story. No offense meant from me Tim.

Well to say I'm surprised by this post is an understatement. I misjudged you on this one.

X2. Wow It does not suprise me. It should to folks who go out and get it and drag it back to the cave every day.

Anyone want to come to work with me for a couple of hours and see this in real time?

Actually this has been discussed here before, most of you guys who seem to be hard to the right kinda get something akin to horse blinder as far as your opinion of folks who have a different point of view than yourself... I personally believe we are a better country than we were 60 or so years ago and I believe that is a result of the food stamp and other assistance programs that makes it less of a struggle for folks who actually need assistance even though there is a lot of abuse of the 'freebies' as you guys like to call it.

Better than 60 years ago........better how?

We sure have more debt. we also have significantly more unemployment. Have a lot more people who rely on the gubment instead of themselves.

    Yea, we're definitely better off.
