    Beaver Lake, Anderson CO

I was thinking about going out Beaver Lake in Anderson County this weekend and rent a boat but I have never fished there before. All of my experience is with farm ponds, so I would like to adventure out to a bigger lake and try out everything I have learn over the past year. I picked up fishing as a serious hobby last year, so I just want to expand to new fishing waters.

Has anyone been there in the last three months or so?

I have not been there for several years. It was a decent bluegill, bass and catfish lake. Worst case is you spend a day on the lake....and the problem with that is....................... Give em' Heck!! Good luck

I have been there many times in the winter and did very well. I went this last fall and did pretty good. I enjoy that little lake but I wish the grass was still growing good. Maybe it will come back again this spring.

Beaver lake is a great little lake to fish...good size on the shellcrackers...abundant amount of bass in the 12-15 inch range with a few hog's out there hiding. The crappie are said to be pretty good there, i've never targeted them there though. Right now i would say that marina is closed until march...so getting a rental may be a little tough. But if youre able to get to the lake...target the bass in and around the grass at the mouth's of the coves...shellcrackers out there tend to be caught there in areas where 6-8' of water is quickly accessed, whether main lake or off in the coves with redworms. Good luck and enjoy the lake!

I used to bring my canoe when I fished there. I would put in and make my way towards the dam. All was nice and calm. But, and this never failed, every time I started to make my way back to the ramp the wind would be gusting. Very hard to maintain control when it whips the front end around every other stroke. I would probably have a heart attack now plying those waters under the same conditions. But the fishing was good.

Thanks for the info man, definitely more than I had. I'm not too keen on size right now, I need to catch a few small ones on larger bodies of water in order to my build my confidence, I'm strictly catch and release unless I am with someone who wants to clean them, which I guess is another reason why size isn't a big deal right now.

I thought the state was trying to keep the grass to a minimal on this body of water? I don't have an opinion on this matter, just trying to get someone else's.

How is the bank access? Is fishing from the bank a feasible idea?

I appreciate the info fellas and it's always nice to talk to some fellow Kentuckians....

To me the grass is great for the food chain and I love fishing grass anyway. I realize people who live on the lake don't really like it being so matted up but I don't live on it so to me it's awesome. When the grass is young/submergent in the spring the fishing was always great. I hope it gets a chance to do that again before they spray or toss chemicals on it.
