I've had no luck with Sauger or any fish this year. Although this is my first year fishing the falls.

I haven't been but I venture to say the duck pond. They have 27ft at dam with 23ft at the upper and 4ft at the lower. I would also try the first drop at the upper dam current permiting, mouth of big whiskey, and both the 40ft hole at the upper and the 40ft hole at the lower dam. 5 units at hydro so you could also try the slack water on both sides. Also you may try the ledge right below Harrison ramp, you will find it on your depth finder. Good luck and let us know how you do.Chuck

Thanks Chuck. Is the Harrison ramp the ramp right across from lower dam? I'm headed out now and will let you know how it goes.

where exactly are these deep pools, and are they accessable from bank?

i was out today, and the water was just a bit too high for my skills, plus i think the baitfish are still deep.

The first hole is behind the museum off the right side of the rock point. The only problem with it is unless you wade out to the edge (very dangerous) you will fray a butt load of line on the ledge if you hook a big flat, been there done that. The other is below the lower dam and you need a boat to get to. Hope this helps .Chuck

Just got back and it was tough.. Tried deep hole behind lower, tried duck pond, tried walking all the way up to upper and not a fish.. Caught 4 last hour of fishing directly behind ramp.. Slow..

And unfortunatly the water will be rising again. The key to sauger down there is stability, If it's up stay up, if it's down, stay down....Hate the yoyo up and down.....I'll still be down there though,up or down.Good luck. Chuck

    Ohio river sauger

I went out below meldahl on Sunday. Had 30 sauger between 5 of us out of a boat. Most came off yo-yoing a blade bait tipped with a minnow. They were around 30' deep. One of the fish was around 4#s. Most of the fish were between 11-14 inches. Big girls still are not there yet.

We fish below Greenup L&D and we've had a horrible winter for sauger. Oct and Nov we were getting quick limits, but since then it's been awful.

Last year we caught 'em all winter, rarely left without our limits. Keeping our fingers crossed that it will get hot in the next couple of weeks.
