sauger at the ohio

I went out below meldahl on Sunday. Had 30 sauger between 5 of us out of a boat. Most came off yo-yoing a blade bait tipped with a minnow. They were around 30' deep. One of the fish was around 4#s. Most of the fish were between 11-14 inches. Big girls still are not there yet.

We fish below Greenup L&D and we've had a horrible winter for sauger. Oct and Nov we were getting quick limits, but since then it's been awful.

Last year we caught 'em all winter, rarely left without our limits. Keeping our fingers crossed that it will get hot in the next couple of weeks.

No luck up by the dam yet. Fish must still be holding low in the deeper water. Best bet may be to find eddies or spots where the current slows. But here any day now the fish will move up and the seaon will be on!!
