Replacing Stolen Tackle

Ok here is my challenge now. I got word from my home owners insurance that they will replace my tackle that was stolen. They will pay the amount listed but only 60% until I give them receipts showing that I did indeed buy tackle back with the money. I try to buy from mom and pop shops as much as posible but this time of the year I am not traveling to lakes so I will save the final 40% to spend with them unless there is someone on here that will help. I had primary bass fishing lures and tackle and maybe 10% other. I want to know what you all would do if this happened to you as far as getting the best tackle I can. Since I am going threw all the headache of doing this I thought I should make the best out of it and try to be fitted as good or better than before. I know I will run into situations over the next few years where I will not have things I did before. I thanks all thous who commented on this and previous posts. What a great bunch of fisherman.

Sounds like you need to get on Tackle Warehouse and get started on an order. Free shipping and no tax will save you some money and get more bang for your buck. Don't go to BPS they just rip you off.....way too expensive.

I have been on here for a while and from time to time I see posts about people loosing all their tackle, rods etc. Someone on here had the great idea of documenting everything you have with pictures. So I did this the other night. I opened all my tackle boxes, took pictures of everything. I even took pictures of my firearms and their serial numbers just to make sure and secured them away on a hard drive. It will make it easy in the event something ever happened. So, while it doesn't help you now, when you get all your stuff replaced I would document with pictures everything you've got!!

I think I would start with the big ticket items first. This is a prime opportunity to upgrade your rods and reels if you're interested in doing that.

Also once you have taken your pictures keep any catalogs that have your gear in them. For instance I have a few Shimano 50MG's. Since they do not make this actual reel anymore I have a copy of Bass Pros 2008 catalog showing their price. I also sent the pictures and summary of my gear to my insurance agent.
As far as buying new gear try a place called The Tackle Trap. They get great reviews on Bass Boat Central and the guys who own it fish alot. One of them was profiled in Bass Master Magazine a few months ago. They can probably help you put together new setups that will fish better than your old ones. Thanks for replies. How do you decide what baits to buy and what not to or your wasting money. Before I kind of new when I pulled out a box say shallow squar bills what I used the most out of that box and what I didn't. Know it just seems like its starting completly over cause I can't just look in a box and know what bait works. I guess when I get started buying baits back I will remember more of what ones I had and used. Still kind of in shock that I have to buy all my tackle back at one time. It may be a dream to some but it is harder than you might think at least it is for me.

Sawinlogs you are correct it is not easy remembering what all you had take your time and go through a bass catalog you will see baits and remember you had one or two of those. What I found was that over the years I had several rods and reels that I had matched to certain type bait presentation and it is real hard to duplicate all these combinations that you have created by trial and error over years.

Good luck and take your time and think about what you liked and didn't like.

If all you have to do is present a receipt then buy a bunch of lucky craft stuff and turn over the receipt then send the high end stuff back and buy what you normally would. At least cover your deductible.

good idea....i know bps and cabelas are rather high, but if you roam around and have some time to look around...i'd check their websites, every now and then they'll run online specials that you can't (unless you address it at customer service) get in the stores....i know last year around this time cabelas ran a rapala's special on the dt's and glass wraps for 3.99 i believe...i know i stocked up and still have plenty....but i guess just really depends on what your looking for....tackle warehouse is always a safe bet....also here and there you can find some people on craigslist getting rid of old equipment, may be able to find some older or out of production lures and equipment that way....good luck with it all, i know its gotta be a stinky situation all the way around.

I also just had one of my tackle bags stolen. It was mostly bass lures such as crankbaits and jigs and everyone knows crankbaits aren't cheap so ive been all over the internet searching for the best deals. After reading this thread i saw several of you guys mentioned the tackle warehouse and i was impressed. I now have reloaded my crankbait boxes and now working on my jigs. I might have more baits than i did before. I also saw that a couple of you was advising taking pictures of all your items so I just recently took pictures of all my gear and kept all the receipts for everything. Next up my guns and archery equipment. Good advice from everyone on here its been greatly appreciated.
