    Hummingbird fishfinder recommendation

Anyone have first hand experience or recommendations for any 500 series hummingbird fishfinders? Hoping to keep under $500 but will spend up to $650 if needed. Is color worth the extra $? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

I will check them out, thanks Fishin is Life. The only difference I can tell between the two (587ci HD DI combo and 597ci HD DI combo) is .5" screen size. They both have gps according to their descriptions. I can't see .5" more of screen size being worth $150 dollars more.

I picked up the 788ci HD DI last year for a good price. I was wanting to stay in about the same price range as you. That precludes you from getting SI but I am digging the DI so far.

Right now I am looking and don't see a whole lot of difference between a 788 and a 597 unit.

Don't pay extra for the pre-loaded maps. They are junk. If you want decent maps you will need a map card of some flavor.

I compared the two on Humminbirds page, and the only spec bewtteen the two that were different are as shown below. I just copied and pasted the specs of both side by side, and threw out any spec where they matched.

I just purchased the 598 ci hd si combo a couple of weeks ago off e-bay for 699.99. I have been waiting for some time for Humminbird to make one that was a little cheaper in price. Had it out last weekend for four hours, all I wanted to do was ride around using the different views down imaging, side imaging and snapshot. The side imaging is worth the money. I am very pleased with this unit. The only thing to make this unit better is larger screen, i did not want to spend any more money.

They don't mention the rebate, but if gthe unit qualifies at one store it ought to at the other. But if you take the $50 off you'd still be $50 more than at Digita Oasis.

    Both had free shipping.

You'd want to double check me on both.

I think I'd go with the 597 vs the 587 because the 597 has a higher resolution meaning a sharper picture, and its just a little bigger screen. YES....I'd definitely go with color, it makes a big difference in daylight and bright conditions. YES, I'd definetly go with GPS be cause you can mark spots and got back to them, you can track you miles run on teh lake for the day or trip, and it will get you home safer in teh fog at night on lakes you may try but not be familiar with.
