    Umbrella Rig in Tennessee Question?

May be a dumb question, but here goes. I know you can only use 3 bait umbrella rigs in Tennessee. Can you throw a five-wire rig and leave two wires empty?

Yes as long as you do not have more than three hooks, baits, or attractors. You can leave the other wires on there. I usually attached a weight to the two empty wires just for balance. TWRA Clarifies Umbrella Rig Regulations | TN.gov Newsroom

Would that count as an attractor?

    Alabama Rig

What size and style of line do you guys throw your umbrella rig on? What water temps do you like to throw this in as well?

You can have five baits but only three hooks! The other two baits are decoys. You can go to wired2fish and they have the newest laws.

The new Tennessee regulations which took effect on March 1 this year allows only three hooks per rig. A treble hook counts as one hook. There is no longer a restriction of having an attractor or other lure on the rig as long as the attractor or other lure does not have a hook attached.

TFWC Approves Fishing 2013-14 Regulations at October Meeting | TN.gov Newsroom

I guess they simplified the law

    Statewide

Allow only three hooks (single, double, or treble) per rod. Sabiki rigs will be permitted.

This hook restriction would apply to all anglers, but it is designed to simplify rules that apply to the use of multi-wire arrays, such as umbrella rigs and Alabama rigs.

If you go to the TWRA website and look at the 2013-2014 Fishing Regulations it even shows an example picture of a legal rig made up of 3 swimbaits with hooks and two spinnerbait blades on the other two arms of the Alabama Rig.
