I got started about 1:30 today and boy was it a nice day. Thought the fishing might pick up during the day, but the water is still freeing. For the first few hours, I continuously switched between a jig and pig and crankbait but couldn't muster a bite. Finally, decided to slow roll a black spinnerbait and didnt get a bite for the first 30 minutes. I had a long paddle back to my car, so I decided to pack it in. For some reason, I figured I would give the spinnerbait a few more shots to produce a fish right next to the takeout. The area I was working had produced numerous fish for me in the past but nothing over 2 pounds. While reeling in about my third or fourth cast, I couldn't feel the blades of the spinnerbait spinning so I set the hook. The fish ripped 12 pound test off my reel and started dragging my kayak around. I did a 180 degree turn and finally saw the fish. Looked like a bowfin at first glance and completely thought it was was with its drag stripping runs. After about 30 more seconds i saw it again and realized it was a bass. It took one final run and my pressure turned up because i knew it was a good fish. Finally, got it to the yak and lipped it on the spot. Ended up being my only bite of the day. The pics dont really give it justice but you can tell the length of it in the kayak.
