Tubby fired while Jamie Dixon extended...

Minnesota fires Tubby Smith after they beat UCLA in Round 2 but Pitt gives Jamie Dixon a 10 yr extension. What's the world coming to?

I know I have gotten butchered in the past for this, but I always liked Tubby and wish he had been given the chance to leave UK on his own. But the way he was ran out of town he did not deserve. Minnesota was not much if any before Tubby arrived and will go down to Penn State territory without him. He has always been a class act and a man of integrity. I would love to see him go to a school that will appreciate what he brings to the table.

No practice facility. An arena that is rundown and AD that is strapped for cash. 9-22 the year before he shows up to averaging 20 wins over 6 years. Minnesota will regret this decision. They have made there last NCAA Tourney for a while

I always thought Tubby was a good coach just not for Ky. His style of coaching doesn't fit how Ky fans want a team coached. I do think Minn is stupid for doing what they did unless there is more to the story than what is being said. Tubby will find a new job real soon.

From what I read it was a good business decision. He had his time and had a good run but didn't get the results they wanted. Tubby seems to be a good guy and will do just fine with his 2.5 million buyout package.
I curious who they will go after to replace him? Maybe Bruce Pearl???

It won't be Pearl. Nobody will touch this guy until 2014 or 2015, when his show cause penalty runs out with the NCAA. Any NCAA school that hires him has to serve the penalty because of him telling lies to the NCAA at Tennessee.

I always liked Pearl. I know he made a mistake but I liked how he had UT fired up and that always gave the SEC a boost in bball. If he coaches again and lands in a good school.....look out! He motivates people by just walking in a room. While Watching him on Sportscenter doing his analyst gig.......I can't help but think he is going to do big things in Coaching.

He was 124 and 81 in six years. 42 and 62 I think in Big 10 play. These aren't great numbers BUT as Woody and some others have stated who in their right mind wants to coach or play there. It stays cold almost year round sometimes below zero for days. They have nothing to draw recruits, no history, no facilities that are worth a crap and a high school gym.

Tubby is class and so is his wife. He visited a close friends of mine Son that has a rare form of Cancer. He knew he boy was a huge UK fan and went to see him and sit with him and the family for a long stretch. His wife was with him. John told me he was gracious and caring and did not rush to get away. Tubby runs a clean show, his kids go to class and play with class or he kicks their ass. I don't have a bad word to say about him.

Shaka Smart I hope I got the name right will be their next coach if UCLA doesn't get him first...

The first two sentences say it all. Who in their right mind would want to walk into that - plus I hear Minnesota winters are balmy.....
