Two recovered and two drown at Patoka Lake

Yea I see now. The local TV station drove a crew up there and took video of the IDNR pulling up the boat. It looked like a big boat which surprised me. Now I'm really curious as to how the boat sunk? Could they have run over the top of a tree or stump and torn a hole in the boat or did they forget to put the plugs in and when the boat stopped it filled with water. Water can fill up a boat pretty fast if you don't put the plug in before launching. But if your boat's moving with the plug out the water will drain out the hole as long as your moving the boat. But if you stop the water starts to come back in the boat again. If you get too much water in the boat before you can get the motor started and moving again to drain the water out the hole your boat may sink. Maybe this is what happened. The cold water this time of the year is a death trap if you can't get to the shore and get warmed up.

They were not small boats. Wish I would have had the camera with me as I would have taken a photo. By not small I am thinking probably 6-7 feet wide and 20+ feet in length. Four people would not be to many for a boat this size. Don't know how many boats there were for sure but it was a pretty good turnout of at least a dozen or more.
Seemed to be a fun group out to enjoy a night on the lake.

I picked up 2 of the newer manual inflatable vests on sale for $89 apiece plus 20% off came to $71 apiece . Very small vest , you hardly know you have it on but it could save your life .

What if for some reason I'm knocked unconscious falling out of the boat? What if I panic and can't locate the release chord for the manual?

However, a manual inflate PFD is better than no PFD at all.

I've been thinking about getting one of the auto inflatable Mustangs for this year. One that won't inflate when it rains and only inflates when it's fully submerged in water. I don't want it going off accidently while stored in my boat's compartment.
