My partners and I had all kinds of problems with all sorts of items used to make brush piles recently at Nolin Lake. The water level was at a point where, in some places, you couldn't cast without getting tangled up in PVC crates and the like. We even pulled up a whicker chair! What was out of the water and on the bank looked plain trashy. I know the KDFWR has rules regarding the placement of these type things on other lakes so I wrote them about it and received quite a favorable response! Here's the correspondence:
KDFWR,
We recently had all sorts of issues with the man made cover placed in Nolin Lake. Not only were we losing very expensive lures in the stuff, we even scratched the boat while attempting a recover mission. I know there are rules on other lakes with regard to placing man made cover and I was wondering if you have ever considered applying more strict rules to Nolin?
PS, As a side note, it looks trashy when the stuff is out of the water. Lets make America Beautiful!
Dear Mr. Barr
It's funny you wrote us about this because we had the exact same problems as you noted while performing shockings a few weeks ago. We had to dedicate extra funds to repair the scratches on one of our aluminium boats. We have already opened discussions with regard to a plan to enforce more strict regulations on the placement of such items and are planning an annual permit based option with tight restrictions on what can be placed and where it can be placed. But first we need to get all the current riff raff off the floor so we are planning a clean up next winter after the draw down. The date(s) will be announced later this year but those interested in helping with the clean up can contact us at 800-277-5357.
Best regards,
Marshal Dillon
PS: Yes, it looks trashy.
I think it's awesome that we have a wildlife department that is so in tuned with the sportsmen of the state..
