Spent the weekend on Cumberland working the kinks out of a new bait tank and a fresh I Pilot install. Fished from early morning to mid afternoon on Saturday for what was the toughest day I've had in a long time. The only solid bait I found was on the edges of the flats and what fish that were with them just didn't go after it hard. I also tried fishing shallow but that's almost fishing blind faith and produced zero hits. The hits I did get were mere bumps. Saturday evening I looked out over a calm lake and saw quite a few bait balls in shallow.
Sunday was a completely different story. Fished just off the banks with light\no weight all the way around and picked up several bass and stripers. Some came on the inside of cove points and some came on the outside boards on the banks. All in all a very productive 30 minutes or so of fishing!
I think they've started the pattern of moving in to the banks. Jigs can work just as good or better than bait when they are in closer like this.
