Green River Lake Levels

The lake is still down about 3.5 to 4 feet. Can you still get down to the far end of the lake? I mean past 151 to the hairpin turn it makes or is there not enoug water? been on the lake many times but never in the spring and like that end of the lake but not sure I can there. Going there this weekend. Thanks for any help/advice.

Do you mean past the 551 bridge? AKA Plum point.

Yes...even when the water is at winter pool you can make it past the hair pin turn "the blue hole" Then trim up and idle the riffle that makes the right hand turn about 150 yards before snake creek. At winter pool you can easily make it to about 100 yards above the snake creek boat ramp. After that riffle you will have to work to make it over it and it is not easy. The river is wide on the riffle but you must know exactly where and in what angle to cross. Then you can run to the next riffle at Denten's branch and that is the end of the line...but to answer your original question yes you can make it above the hair pin turn.

BTW... when you say that far down the lake what you are really talking about is that far up the lake. The river is upstream and the dam is down stream. GRL flows from south east to north west. When traveling up stream you are going south east. I know that may sound confusing but the easiest way to remember is head waters upstream, dam and tail waters down stream.

Thanks for the information, I know I could run down to the hairpin the past but wanted to make sure. Yes, I had my directions backwards, should know better!

sounds like you know the lake pretty well, I'll be there this Friday thru Sunday. Where would you fish this time of year?

You did not say what you are fishing for. I know most of the crappie boats are from holmes bend up to the hwy 551 bridge with a few more in the river. As for bass "if" the weather man is correct I think they could be on the move this weekend. I would look at staging areas close to spawning areas. If the water warms up 7-8 degrees in a short amount of time (2-3 days) what you find on day 1 could be gone to a totally different area by day 3. Bass are ready to make a move up...just waiting on mother nature to provide the right conditions to make the move. So it will be hard to predict not knowing the actual conditions.

Thanks for the info. yes, fishing for bass. Thinking the same thing about water temps and when will they start to move up. Guess i'll know more tomorrow.

It works the same for the Robinson Creek arm of the lake, lower Robinson is at the dam and upper Robinson would go to slightly before the Hwy 76 bridge at summer pool. I wouldn't go up farther than that if I valued my lower unit.

So you think I can make it up to Knifley Road (HWY 76) at current levels?

Your original post was about the hair pin turn way up the river. You can easily get way past the bridge at HWY 551 Knifley Road on the upper end of the lake. Now you are asking about HWY 76 Knifley Road which is on the opposite end of the lake in Robinson Creek. The water must be over summer pool to get a boat to Knifley Road on HWY 76.

I am talking about where 76 crosses the north end of the lake. Google maps calls it Knifely road just before it comes into RT 70. Are we talking about same end of the lake? If so, how close to 76 can I get? Thanks for the help.

Look at Sweetwater's post about Robinson Creek. That's the area you are talking about. I can tell you that there is no way in heck I would even consider taking a bass boat anywhere near the 76 Bridge. The creek is very narrow there right before the bridge, not more than a creek underneath the bridge flowing between two rock walls. I've seen a few boats a good ways in the distance from the bridge during higher water but I've been too chicken to try myself.
