I bought the new Lakemaster Great Lakes Region Chip the other day at Gander Mountain. It has a map of Kentucky Lake and Patoka Lake which were not included in the first version Lakemaster IN/OH map.
I've only had a short time to play with it but I did noticed that the Otter Pit map is the same in both versions. I saw some screen shots that made me wish that the newer version was a little more detailed but I'm thinking that the are exactly the same. So that was a waste of money on that part.
But the good news is that the new map does have a HD map of Patoka Lake which the first map lacked. So to me it was worth the money to get the map of Patoka Lake on my Depth Finder.
The new version of the Lake Master Map will work with the Minn Kota Terrova I pilot and will follow a specific contour.. To me that is worth the money. Now all I need to do is buy an new Trolling Motor. Perhaps I can sell my old one.
I'll have to check out the rest of the map and look at the map of Kentucky Lake. I want to check out the area that I fished in the past and look at some areas where I know the topography of those areas by heart. I'll see how the map dipicts these areas and if it's accurte or not.
It's just a **** shame that the first map didn't have IN/KY/IL instead of OH and that it didn't have Kentucky Lake and Patoka lake in it. I give them credit for the update but they should not charge over 100 to get the updated info.
Later today I'll check out the Kentucky Lake part of the map and see how it looks.
Well got to view the KY lake Cypress Bay part of the Lakemaster Great Lakes new map data card. I can see a few spots in the bay where I remember people anchoring and catching crappie. They also guarded the spot like a bank! Now that I can see that there is a nice drop off at that spot I know why they were catching fish there. So I learned some thing new about where I use to fish. I need to check out the map section of Shannon Creek which I fished for many years. There is a road bed that runs across the back of the bay but I can't recall if that was on the may or not.
The Patoka Lake map section looks pretty good. It shows some features in Dumplin Creek that I know about. It show the River Channel at the Mouth and the first part of the creek that runs of the Patoka River into Dumpling creek.
Over all I give it a good rating. However when I zoom in to the most magnified view the screen becomes pixilated. Perhaps that due to the limited resolution of my 898 C SI unit. I wonder if the 1198 Unit will show a better map view as it may have more resolution on it's larger screen. If I get up to Patoka Lake with my boat and fish with my friend I'll ask him if I can stick my map into his 1198 and see what it looks like on his Humminbird SI unit. I'll try to remember to report back on that.
