Driving to my first job today to test some fiber I decided to take some Backroads and drive past the Kentucky river instead of the interstate to see how high and muddy it was. On my way a car leaves me standing still at a light...I'm guessing he wanted to be first on these twisty roads?? Anyway, I'm driving for about 5 minutes and every once in a while I catch a glimpse of this guy ahead of me flying over a hill or zippin down a straight section of road and I'm thinking ...MAN he is flying and better be careful!
For those of you here in Fayette county it's the Athens Boonsboro road from I-75 toward Halls on the river...anyway I come around a corner and a oncoming van is flashing his lights fast so I slow down and sure enough that guy had just wrecked his car. I mean plastic parts are all in the road along with dirt and rocks from hitting the side of the hill. Steam is rolling out from under his hood and the car is resting against a tree....the car is trashed!!! Looked to me like he hit the corner to hard and his tires slipped which made him smack into the hillside and it spun him around to the opposite side where a tree stopped him from going down the side of a small hill.
He is standing there so I ease up...tires crunching the remains of his rear taillights, rocks and front grill and ask if he is ok? He says yes but to call the police since he has no cell phone....which I did. I got out and talk with the guy to make sure he wasn't injured, bleeding or if anyone else was in the car and the fella in the van had stopped and was also helping so I left since he was fine.
But, the look on his face spoke to me...."yes I'm the one who blew past you", "yes I'm the one driving like Jeff Gordon only in a Oldsmobile with bald tires" and "yes I'm the one who wrecked trying to set a speed record on the wet slippery Backroads". Considering the area, he was dang lucky he didn't flip his car or roll off the side of one of those embankments!!! Gotta be smart on those twisty wet roads!!
